Job Description

Job Title: Cost Controller (Marine Works)

Job Summary

The Cost Controller is part of the Construction Supervision team and focuses on the land works sector of the programme.
The Cost Controller reviews payment claims of the construction contractors.
The Cost Controller responds to queries and makes recommendations to the Engineer’s Representative regarding payment of contractors, status of payment claims and comparison of actual cost to date versus planned costs.
The Cost Controller reports to the Engineer’s Representative for Land Works who reports to the Project Director.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Cost Controller will be responsible for

  • Controlling and monitoring project total expenditure including verifying and checking of invoices and claims from suppliers, vendors and subcontractors to ensure that all project expenditures are captured and properly recorded.
  • Cost control support which includes tracking of cost variations.
  • Implementing and utilizing cost reporting and tracking tools including the use of project management system to monitor the status of cost claims and payments up to the closure of the project.
  • Collaborate with the planning and site supervision staff to resolve project issues with the goal of delivery/completion of the project work.
  • Participate in project meetings and discussions.
  • Project cost reporting for use by the construction management and programme management teams; this includes monthly project status reporting with narrative description of status, issues and projections with comparisons to the project budget.
  • Other ad-hoc duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Cost Controller.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the employ of an engineering consulting firm.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working on a large infrastructure project.
  • Experience working in the employ of a construction contractor is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or University in Engineering Technology, Quantity Surveying, Business, Logistics or Accounting.
