Ashesi University College is looking to recruit an experienced and competent academic for the position of Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. Reporting to the Dean of Academic Affairs, the position requires someone with proven leadership skills and a passion for excellence. A strong sense of ethics is vital to succeed in this position.

The successful applicant will assist with overseeing and directing academic programmes of the university and shall be an integral member of the university’s management team.

 

Required Skills or Experience

Required:

  • A minimum of a doctorate degree from an accredited and internationally recognized institution
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ teaching experience at a university. Experience as a department chair will be an advantage
  • Experience with the liberal arts method of education is required
  • Strategic planning skills to effect change in a multi-cultural environment
  • An accomplished leader who can guide faculty in research activities
  • Higher level of managerial skills and demonstrated leadership skills
  • A high level of entrepreneurial skills that translates into building of systems and initiatives including but not limited to academic activities
  • Experience in developing academic programmes
  • Knowledge of university accreditation processes
  • Proven ability to develop budgets and manage departments in a fiscally responsible and pragmatic manner
  • Knowledge and skill in communicating effectively utilizing public relations principles and practices

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of college educational philosophy, curricula and instructional programmes and top management administrative practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of technological systems as they apply to instructional and administrative functions
  • Skill in employee development and performance management
  • Strong leadership skills that promote dedication, creativity, innovation and growth
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal and people skills

Duties:

The general duties for this position includes but not limited to the following:

Advertisement

Academic

  • Assist the Dean of Academic Affairs to work on accreditation processes and also meet other statutory requirements
  • Assist the Dean of Academic Affairs with affiliation processes both within and outside Ghana
  • Facilitate the development, review, and revision of academic curricula and assure their quality and relevance
  • Drive the research and publications initiative at Ashesi

Leadership

  • Provide leadership, direction and supervision to faculty, staff and students
  • Promote an environment supportive of the university’s mission and vision, student-centered services and teaching excellence
  • Promote the professional development of faculty and staff
  • Develop, maintain and monitor fiscal resources and assist in securing external funding to support educational initiatives
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the College policies, procedures and guidelines as well as college-wide initiatives
  • Encourage partnerships with stakeholders in the external educational, professional and business communities
  • Liaise with other educational institutions and the local community to ensure active involvement of the university in community-wide activities

Administrative

  • Chair meetings of the Academic Council in the absence of the Dean of Academic Affairs
  • Coordinate and run monthly faculty meetings
  • Participate in mediating faculty and student issues, grievances, and appeals
  • Coordinate with student deans to support the course scheduling and faculty assignment process
  • Participate in the selection, hiring, and other personnel decisions associated with faculty and staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the university or that are incidental to the position
