Job Title: Technology Learning Adviser
Job Description
The British High Commission Accra is part of world-wide network of 270 Posts, representing British prosperity, security, consular interests overseas. We are looking to recruit a Technology Learning Adviser (TLA) on a fixed term contract.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of high quality and effective Technical Learning and Development (Tech L&D) in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO and other UK Government Departments within their region. They will also be responsible for working closely with FCO Posts to identify Technical L&D needs and helping to identify a range of IT L&D interactions to meet these needs.
As part of a global network of TLAs in other FCO locations, this role supports the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s (FCO) Knowledge & Technology Department (KTD) objectives and in particular, the successful delivery of a new ‘Technology Overhaul’ programme. The successful candidate will also be helping to drive a culture change in the way the FCO uses information, technology and knowledge to undertake its work.
Whilst this role will be based in Accra or Pretoria, the successful candidate will provide Tech L&D to up to 35 Posts within their region. The FCO is moving swiftly towards the majority of its Learning and Development being delivered via virtual delivery (e.g. via Videoconference), but some duty travel within the region to deliver Tech L&D at other FCO Posts face-to-face will also be required as well as occasional travel outside of Africa e.g. back to the UK for upskilling and conferences.
The successful candidate will have a strong practical and theoretical knowledge and background in Learning and Development design and delivery, ideally supported by Learning and Development professional qualifications. The candidate will be expected to work with a wide range of stakeholders so strong communications skills – including the ability to explain topics using a simple and structured approach, is essential.
A strong and broad IT working knowledge is also required, including knowledge of MS Windows and the MS Office suite, but this role is primarily about helping others to learn how to use new technical knowledge and skills across a wide range of topics rather than an a technical specialist role. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Tech Learning and Development Delivery, based in the FCO’s UK Knowledge and Technology Directorate (KTD) in London.
