Job Title: Programme Manager – Community Development

Job Description

Cadbury Cocoa Partnership, a multinational public-private initiative which is expanding into 200 communities in cocoa-growing areas in Ghana, seeks the services of dynamic individuals to achieve its goal of sustainable livelihoods for cocoa farming communities. All positions are based in Accra with extensive travel in the cocoa-growing areas in Ghana. The ability to speak Ghanaian languages would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Director, the Programme Manager for Community Development will be responsible for working with the technical and implementing partners to deliver the strategic outcomes related to community-centred development interventions and sustainable livelihoods from non-cocoa whilst mainstreaming the programme cross-cutting issues as captured in the Partnership’s Vision Into Action. The responsibilities of the Programme Manager for Community Development will cover but not limited to the following:

  1. Play a key role in the development activities related to rural cocoa communities along with technical support on community-centred development with special focus on issues related to child labour and trafficking, health, water and sanitation, additional livelihoods, biodiversity conversation and environmental sustainability, education, gender, discrimination and diversity
  2. Lead programme planning processes, implementation, monitoring and review in support of programme activities
  3. Promote policy and operational linkages with activities implemented by other development partners in order to increase programme impact
  4. Regularly interact with the District authorities, public institutions and other government agencies to support the implementation of the programme, and also to ensure that the activities are institutionalised over time scale as planned in the programme
  5. Work closely with private sector and business organisations such as banking institutions, micro finance institutions and other agencies to facilitate service delivery to the farming community

Required Skills or Experience

Pre-requisites:

  • Master’s degree in Development Studies or related field
  • A minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in leading and managing community development interventions
  • Skills in programme conceptualisation and policy analysis
  • Willingness to travel extensively in cocoa-producing communities
  • A work history that includes multi-tasking and working with various levels of partners and stakeholders
  • Good communication skills and capacity to work effectively under intense pressure

Job Title 2: Programme Manager – Cocoa Extension and Environment

  1. Play a key role in the development activities related to rural cocoa communities along with technical support on Cocoa farming related issues with special focus on cocoa production and productivity improvement
  2. Work closely with Ghana COCOBOD which is the key technical partner in the implementation of the Extension programme
  3. Support the implementation of key activities of the Extension programme such as inputs delivery, farmer co-operatives, training of farmers and local cocoa facilitators, etc for successful delivery of the programme
  4. Regularly interact with the District authorities, public institutions and other government agencies to support the implementation of the programme, and also to ensure that the activities are institutionalized over time scale as planned in the programme
  5. Work closely with private sector and business organisations such as fertiliser companies, chemical companies and other inputs companies, banking institutions, micro finance institutions and other other agencies to facilitate service delivery to the farming community
  6. Facilitate the implementation of certification programmes such as Fairtrade and other as envisaged under the programme, by working closely with the partners

 

Required Skills or Experience

Pre-requisites:

  • An MSc in Agriculture degree in Development Studies or related field
  • A minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience of providing hands-on extension service within a rural context
  • Skills in programme conceptualization and policy analysis
  • Willingness to travel extensively in cocoa-producing communities
  • A work history that includes multi-tasking and working with various levels of partners and stakeholders
  • Good communication skills and capacity to work effectively under intense pressure

Job Title 3: Project Officer – Extension and Environment

Key Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager for Cocoa Extension and Environment, the Project Officer for Extension and Environment will be responsible for specific projects related to cocoa production and will assist the Programme Manager for Extension and Environment. His/her responsibilities will cover but not be limited to the following:

  1. Support the work of Community Extension Agents through Ghana Cocoa Board
  2. Co-ordinate inputs delivery, farmer co-operatives, training of farmers and local cocoa facilitators
  3. Oversee the Cadbury Cocoa Partnership Wells Project
  4. Assist the implementation of certification programmes
  5. Submit quarterly field reports on extension and environment
  6. Regularly visit the field and interact with farmers, extension agents and other stakeholders in the districts and communities

Required Skills or Experience

Pre-requisites:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture
  • A minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience in providing hands-on extension service within a rural context
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation issues
  • A work history that includes multi-tasking and working with various levels of partners and stakeholders
  • At least 1 year working experience with agricultural ethical certification processes
  • Good communication skills and must model company values and display confidentiality

Job Title 4: Project Driver/Administrative Clerk

  • Under the direct supervision of the Project Officer for Business Development, the Project Driver’s responsibilities will cover but not limited to driving, managing the Cadbury Cocoa Partnership fleet vehicles and providing clerical support duties.

Required Skills or Experience

Pre-requisites:

  • A secondary level educational qualification with at least 6 years of driving company vehicles
  • Experience in ensuring renewal of licences and vehicles policies as well as general fleet management
  • Computer literacy especially in filing and retrieval of documents in both MS-Word and MS-Excel
  • Good communication skills in multiple local languages and English
  • Ability to work effectively under intense pressure
  • Must model company values and display confidentiality
