Job Description

 

CARE International in Ghana is inviting applications from qualified persons to fill a vacant position on a Partnership for Equitable Resources and Forest Management (PERFORM) Project.

Project Officer
The Project Officer is a member of the Forest and Natural Resource Program and reports to the Gender and Livelihoods Advisor. The position is based in the Western Region and covers selected districts in the Western Region.

The Project Officer will be hosted by a Strategic Partner and will be responsible for facilitating capacity building of Community Based Organisations in group dynamics, networking, record keeping, transparency and accountability as well as facilitate relationships / linkages with duty bearers at the community, district and regional levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Survey and document the status of existing CBOs working with FNRP Strategic Partners and collaborators.
  • Identify OD capacity needs to enhance the achievement of their goals and objectives.
  • Support CBOs in the development and implementation of action plans to achieve their goals and objectives
  • Monitor implementation of action plans.
  • Analyze existing information flow systems within and between the CBOs.
  • Develop and test systems which promote information sharing among the CBOs as well as between the CBOs and duty bearers.
  • Facilitate the creation of platforms for CBOs to engage and dialogue and hold duty bearers accountable.
  • Identify capacity building needs of the CBOs and facilitate processes for their capacity building.
  • Link up with FNRP Gender and Livelihoods Advisor for capacity support for CBOs on gender issues.
  • Submit quarterly reports to the Gender and Livelihoods Advisor and Strategic Partner, focusing on impact level reporting.
  • Conduct regular reviews with CBOs to jointly identify and agree on Most Significant Change stories as a result of interventions.

 

Required Skills or Experience

  • A University degree in Natural resource management, Environmental science, Rural/Social development
  • 3 years practical experience in working on forest and natural resource management issues
  • Proven experience in working with communities, CBOs, NGOs and District Assemblies
  • Experience in working with partners is key to this position.
  • Understanding and experience of rural development and institutional building
  • Ability to speak Twi fluently, facilitation, capacity development, communication, ride motorbike, word processing and excel, planning and budgeting for planned activities
  • Strategic and conceptual thinking ability
  • Critical thinking, creative and analytical
  • Excellent communication skills and good team player
