Founded in December 2011, University of Health and Allied Sciences is among the youngest public universities in Ghana.  University of Health and Allied  has a student population of almost  2,100 and employees numbering approximately 390 made up of academic and senior administrative employees, as well as other support staff.

Job Description

Job Title: Academic Deans (Senior Level Administrative Positions)

The University of Health and Allied Sciences invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following positions to take effect from 1st August, 2017:

Reporting to:    Vice Chancellor

Positions:  

  • Dean, School of Nursing and Midwifery
  • Dean, School of Public Health
  • Dean, School of Pharmacy
  • Dean, School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences

Duties:

  • A Dean is responsible for providing leadership to the School and for maintaining and promoting the efficiency and good order in accordance with the policies and procedures prescribed by the University Act and Statutes, and as may be determined by the Council or the Academic Board.
  • The Dean is to ensure that the approved programmes and functions of the School are duly carried out by members of the School/Institute.
  • The Dean is also responsible for the general administration of the School in respect of human, financial and material resources within the general framework of University policy.
  • The Dean shall perform any other duties assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

Tenure:

  • A Dean shall hold office for three years on terms and conditions recommended by the Appointments Board and is eligible for re-appointment for a further term of up to three years.

Required Skills or Experience

The applicant must be:

  • Of a professorial status in a relevant or related subject area from an academic/research institution or qualified to be appointed as such. AND
  • Capable of providing academic leadership especially in the area of teaching, research and extension in the relevant disciplines.
  • Capable of providing evidence of managerial and administrative leadership and capacity to promote a collegial working environment in the School.
  • Able to demonstrate capacity to attract funding for research and development.
  • Visionary and have the drive to oversee the growth and development of the School.
  • Able to serve a minimum of three (3) years in office before the retiring age of 60
