The African Adaptation Programme (AAP) is a programme focused on climate change adaptation, which is being implemented in 20 countries in Africa. Under this programme, UNDP will assist the 20 countries in implementing integrated and comprehensive adaptation actions and resilience plans. The projects will ensure that national development processes incorporate climate change risks and opportunities to secure development gains under a changing climate. UNDP will help countries to secure development gains under a changing climate. UNDP will help countries an enabling environment and develop the capacity required to design, finance, implement, and monitor long-term and cost-effective adaptation policies and plans. In Ghana AAP has a particular focus on early warning system (EWS) and it is being implemented by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
AAP in Ghana wishes to recruit a Technical Assistant to strengthen the current Project Management Unit (PMU) and facilitate the implementation of the AAP activities. The Technical Assistant will be based in the PMU office at the EPA-Accra and will be supervised and report to the AAP Project Manager.

 

Job vacancy: Technical Assistant
Duties and Responsibilities:
Broadly, the Technical Assistant will support the Project Manager and Project Associate to deliver all activities included under AAP. The duties and responsibilities of the  Technical Assistant will be varied and could include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Draft TOs and specifications for packages of work
  • Assist in the recruitment and management of consultants
  • Assist the Project Manager to prepare progress reports, work plans, presentations, etc
  • Assist the Project Manager to implement project activities
  • Organise workshops, meetings and other events
  • Attend workshops and meetings
  • Prepare notes/reports on workshops, meetings, etc
  • undertake monitoring and evaluation of pilot projects
  • Technically edit reports and documents submitted by consultants
  • Manage project website (e.g. uploading documents)
  • Any other duties assigned by the project Manager

Duration: The TA shall be engaged for a period of 12 months (with possible renewal)
Reporting: The Technical Assistant will report directly to the Project Manager
 

Required Skills or Experience

Advertisement
  • Should possess a minimum of a Masters Degree in any development related field such as planning, economics, environmental sciences or other related fields
  • Demonstrable knowledge of climate change issues is essential
  • Excellent English language skills (oral and written)
  • Proven ability to draft and edit technical reports is essential
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to network and foster teamwork
  • Highly developed computer skills
  • Minimum of three (3) years relevant experience after the post-graduate degree
