The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) works with partners to enhance crop quality and productivity, reduce producer and consumer risks, and generate wealth from agriculture, with the ultimate goals of reducing hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. IITA’s research-for-development (R4D) focuses on addressing the development needs of tropical countries. The institute was established in 1967 and is headquartered in Ibadan, Nigeria, with several research stations across Africa. IITA is a nonprofit organization governed by a Board of Trustees, supported by several countries and the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
IITA Ghana is seeking research staff to work on the Africa Research in sustainable intensification for the next generation (Africa RISING) project in the 3 northern regions
Job Description
Job Title: Research Associate – Nutrition and Post-Harvest Technology
Responsibilities
• Collect, analyze and summarize a broad range of socio-economic data on on-station and on-farm trials
• Assist with the creation of research for development platforms for action research
• Perform economic analysis of improved technologies
• Assist with adoption and impact studies
• Prepare technical and non-technical reports
• Supervise and train research technicians on appropriate data collection
• Assist with organizing workshops, meetings and monitoring tours
• Assist with out-scaling and scaling-up of projects outputs
• Establish and maintain contacts with farmers and relevant stakeholders
• Perform any other official duties assigned by supervisor
Qualification Required & Experience
• BSc in Food Science, Nutrition, Entomology, Post-harvest technology
• MSc in Post-Harvest Science / Technology from a recognised university
Required Skills and Experience
• A minimum of 2 to 3 years of post-qualification research experience
• Demonstrated skills in data collection and analysis
• Excellent computer skills and knowledge of statistical packages for data analysis
• Demonstrated skills in scientific writing
• Good writing and verbal communication skills in English and other local languages in Northern Ghana.
Location: Navorongo or Bolgatanga – Upper East Region with field work travels to project sites in Upper West and Northern regions
