Job Description
Purpose:
To assist the nursing staff in providing care for patients on the Ward/Unit
Assists in feeding patients
Assists patients to access and use the toilet facilities
Assists patient to maintain their personal hygiene and appearance (e.g bathing, mouth care)
Assists patients to ambulate as planned
Assists with manual handling and transferring of patients between hospital environments
Assists the professional nurse to undertake the last offices of the deceased patients
Assists patients during admission and discharge
Undertakes ward dusting and general cleanliness of the ward/workplace
Takes care and undertakes cleaning of equipment (instruments and bedpans)
Ensures that all actions undertaken is consistent with the patient’s multi-disciplinary plan of care
Carries out other official dutes assigned by the Ward Manager/Unit in-charge
Required Skills or Experience
SSSCE Certificate (3 passes including English plus at least 3 months’ training (theory and practical) as health care assistant
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Some Knowledge of quality assurance issues and GHS guidelines relating to patient/client confidentiality
Communicate effectively both orally and written
Ability to work under pressure and relate to people from different backgrounds
Ability to initiate and maintain clear and concise documentation
