Job Description

Purpose:
To assist, plan, implement and evaluate midwifery care
Assists with the organization and delivery of antenatal care to clients
Assists with the organization and delivery of postnatal care to clients
Contributes to the provision of key services during the antenatal period to improve healthcare outcomes for clients
Provides counseling to clients on birth preparedness and complication readiness
Conducts spontaneous vaginal deliveries for clients
Provides education for clients on a range of relevant topics including minor ailments during pregnancy and their management, personal hygiene, breastfeeding, nutrition etc
Anticipates and recognizes deviations from normal infant deliveries and carries out laid down procedures to safeguard the well-being of mothers and babies such as resuscitation of newborns treatment of hemorrhage and shock, fetal distress, prolapsed cord, and other life threatening conditions
Assists with the organization and conduction of prenatal classes for expectant parents to help ensure safe pregnanc, childbirth and puerperium
Assists mothers to initiate infant feeding following delivery
Assists with the management of breastfeeding problems
Carries out other official duties assigned by the Ward Manager/Unit In-charge

Required Skills or Experience

Registered Midwife with Diploma in Midwifery plus at least One (1) year internship

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge and understanding of quality assurance issues
Knowledge of GHS patient charter
Knowledge of health and safety
Understanding of reproductive health policy and standards
Communicate effectively, both orally and written
Good interpersonal skills and problem solving skills
Ability to work under pressure
Ability to initiate and maintain clear and concise documentation
