Ghana Developing Communities Association (GDCA) in collaboration with its Danish partners Ghana Friendship Groups in Denmark (GV) and other partners have started to implement a new programme, Empowerment for Life programme. The new programme has three components, namely Complementary Basic Education and Youth Employment, Civil Society Strengthening and Community-Managed Livelihood Improvement The new programme offers exciting job opportunities for the following positions for immediate employment

 

1. Food For Life Officer

Job Description

The Empowerment for Life (E4L) is a Danida funded Programme being implemented by the Ghana Developing Communities Association (GDCA), the Youth Employment for Life (YEfL) and their Danish partner, the Ghana Friendship Groups. The Programme applies a rights-based approach, involving strategic service delivery on a moderate scale to support its advocacy work with the aim of reducing poverty in its operational area – 15 districts of the Northern Region. The Programme works in the areas of Education, Water & sanitation, Community-based Networks, Food Security, Youth Empowerment and Employment, with the overarching focus of civil society strengthening.

The Programme is running into its second phase, starting January 2012 to December 2014 and has vacancy for the following position.

The objective of the Food for Life is to empower communities to advocate for their rights to agricultural services and to promote best farming practices and innovations. The Food for Life is being implemented in three districts. As part of its strategies, a “Think Tank” (TT) has been put in place to help achieve the objective of optimizing research and local farmers’ efforts to address food security in relation to climate change adaptation in Northern Ghana.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Document all activities and serve as secretary to the Think Tank (TT) as well as co-ordinate the implementation of the decisions of the body
  • Be the liaison between the TT and the Programme through the CLIP Co-ordinator
  • Organise regular farmers’ fora in project area and be the link between farmer groups and the TT
  • Support capacity building and networking of farmers’ groups
  • Identify and engage in relevant advocacy and lobby activities on behalf of the target groups
  • Develop an information management system and a resource centre on food security and climate change adaptation
  • Work towards enhanced collaboration and co-ordination of activities and programmes with the DAs, decentralised Departments and other development partners in operating in the programme area
  • Developing and submit narrative and financial reports to Programme Management and the TT

 

Required Skills or Experience

 

  • M.Sc with two years relevant experience or B.Sc with four year relevant experience and in community relations
  • Abreast with Climate Change Adaptation issues and methods
  • Team player and be prepared to work outside normal working hours
  • Able to communicate scientific jargons in simple language to the target groups

2. Assistant Programme Co-ordinator

The Programme is running into its second phase, starting January 2012 to December 2014 and has vacancy for the following position.

Purpose:
To support the E4L Programme Co-ordinator in the discharge of his/her duties. The Assistant Co-ordiantor will report to the E4L Programme Co-ordinator.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  1. Support in the development of co-operation and synergy between programme components
  2. Assist the E4L Programme Co-ordinator to receive reports from components and draft the programme report as required
  3. Arrange Programme level and other meetings
  4. Be responsible for the documentation of meetings, experienced and other events of the programme level
  5. Support in development and implementation of Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting methodologies and approaches, with particular focus on results based management and monitoring

 

Required Skills or Experience

 

  • Minimum, first degree in Social Science, Development Studies or Other relevant field, with at least 5 years work experience, or a Master’s Degree with at least three years work experience, preferably in an NGO environment and experience in working with strong advocacy focus
  • High level of proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the use of the Internet
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Be a self-initiator as well as strong team player with consultative abilities and must be able to work to deadlines

3. Field Officers (LOM)

The Programme is running into its second phase, starting January 2012 to December 2014 and has vacancy for the following position.

Location: Yendi and Savelugu Districts in the Northern Region

Under the Empowerment for Life programme, it is the objective of the Local Organisation and Mobilisation Sub-component to strengthen civil society’s demand for improved services within a framework of functional governance structures. Three field officers are need to support in this direction.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Mobilise and sensitize communities, CBOs, Traditional Authorities (TAs), NGOs and other partners in the target area
  • Work towards enhanced collaboration and co-ordination of activities and programmes with the DAs, decentralised Departments and other development partners operating in the programme area
  • Carry out capacity building training of CBOs and the CBO Networks
  • Support CBOs and CBO Networks to identify and engage in relevant advocacy and lobbying activities with Service Providers

 

Required Skills or Experience

 

Advertisement
  • First degree in Social Sciences or any relevant field with a minimum of two years work experience in participatory development and rural field work
  • Conversant with innovative facilitation methods/skills
  • Knowledge in mainstreaming and analyzing gender activity
  • Ability to co-ordinate different groups and networks of the Programme
  • Understanding of basic development issues especially in advocacy and rights based approaches
  • Knowledge in conflict prevention and resolution

4. Pedagogical Research and Development Officer (PR&DO)

The Programme is running into its second phase, starting January 2012 to December 2014 and has vacancy for the following position.

Location: School for Life Head Office, Tamale

The Learning and Development Centre of the Programme will serve as a resource where institutions, organisations in education and those interested in replicating the SfL model of Complementary Basic Education can learn about the best practices of the model. Research and development is a focus area where collecting, processing, analysing and sharing relevant data on pedagogical approaches and complementary education with stakeholders in education (within Ghana and beyond), will be emphasised.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Be directly responsible for all activities related to monitoring and evaluation, research and development, storage and management of all relevant data on the Learning and Development Centre (LDC) as well as other SfL activities
  • Lead in the documentation, analysis and packaging of SfL best practices
  • Plan and carry out research into workable methodologies to promote quality basic education delivery
  • Engage and support other (particularly field) staff in data collection for research and results-based monitoring
  • Be familiar with the educational situation in underserved areas in Ghana and willing to travel extensively
  • Lead in marketing the SfL/LDC
  • Ensure that the organisation is abreast with educational trends, openings and developments
  • Assist in the development of training modules for the SfL/LDC

 

Required Skills or Experience

 

  • First degree in  Education with a minimum of seven years work experience; a second degree will be an added advantage
  • Experience in professional teacher development and knowledgeable in current teacher training methodologies
  • Strong theoretical and practical background in monitoring and evaluation (M&E)
  • Computer skills, especially in SPSS, Excel, Power Point and MS Access
  • Experience with results-based management (RBM)
  • Skillful in research work and methodology
  • Team player and ability to support other staff on information gathering and analysis
  • Ability to generate and compile reports
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

5. Manager – YEfL

The Programme is running into its second phase, starting January 2012 to December 2014 and has vacancy for the following position.

The Youth Empowerment for Life (YEfL) is a Northern based non-governmental organization that is an implementing partner for the Employment for Life Programme. It seeks to collate voices of the youth in the Northern Region for national development and has vacancies for the position.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and vision to the organisation
  • Create an overview of fund raising and lead fund raising processes
  • Co-ordinate effectively all projects and ensure effective communication with all relevant stakeholders
  • Plan and effectively monitor all activities and budgets in accordance with set standards of the Programme

 

Required Skills or Experience

 

  • Minimum first degree in development related field, second degree is an advantage
  • At least five years work experience in a similar position
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in project co-ordination and management
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and analytical skills
  • Visionary, self-initiator and results oriented
  • Be a strong team player

6. Field Officer – YEfL

The Programme is running into its second phase, starting January 2012 to December 2014 and has vacancy for the following position.

The Youth Empowerment for Life (YEfL) is a Northern based non-governmental organization that is an implementing partner for the Employment for Life Programme. It seeks to collate voices of the youth in the Northern Region for national development and has vacancies for the position.

Key roles and responsibilities:

  • Carry out animation and sensitisation of communities
  • Work towards enhanced collaboration, synergy and co-ordination of activities and programmes with DAs, departments and partners
  • Work with youth groups to build their capacity and support them to carry out activities
  • Ensure efficient functioning of all Youth Centres and effective guidance and support to youth centre management committees
  • Carry out monitoring of youth groups activities and Youth Centres

 

Required Skills or Experience

 

  • First degree in development related areas or Higher National Diploma (HND)
  • At least two (2) years experience in similar position
  • Ability to clearly communicate and produce timely reports
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in computer programmes (word, excel and good typing skills)
