The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is a Public Service body established under Act 525 of 1996 as required by the 1992 constitution. It is an autonomous Executive Agency responsible for implementation of national policies under the control of the Minister for Health through its governing Council – the Ghana Health Service Council. To achieve this, the GHS must attract and appoint suitably qualified personnel to carry out its mandate at various operational levels. Ghana Health Service recruits: Director – Health Admin & Support
Job Description
Duration: The Appointment is for a renewable term of four (4) years
Job Purpose:
Provide direction and advice to the efficient management of General Administration and Support Services (Transport, Clinical Engineering and Estates)
Lead in the needs assessment of clinical equipment, transport and estate
Ensure prompt installation and maintenance of medical equipment and plants
Ensure planned preventive maintenance of health estates
Plan for capital development projects
Supervise the construction and rehabilitation of health facilities
Lead in the development and dissemination of procedures and guidelines in general administration, transport, estate and clinical engineering
Coordinate request for medical boards from MDA for compensation, medical evacuation, and retirement on health grounds etc
Facilitate the development and maintenance of a central database on health infrastructure, transport and medical equipment
Contribute to the disposal of obsolete equipment, plants and transport
Contribute to policy development, analysis and review in the Ghana Health Service (GHS)
Lead in the development of systems for monitoring and evaluation of transport management, general administration practices, and health projects across the organisation
Contribute to the implementation and evaluation of national health policies within the GHS
Contribute to the development of medium/long term strategic plans
Compensation:
The Ghana Health Service compensation package is competitve in the Public Sector
Required Skills or Experience
Applicants should have post-graduate qualification in their respective fields with 7 year experience as practitioners in their professionl fields
The last 3 years (5 years for first 3 positions) must be in a Management position preferably in the Public Health Sector
Evidence of leadership and continuous professional development or valid registration from the professional institution is necessary if applicants’ profession is regualated by law
Applicants must have considerable strategic, interpersonal and analytical skills with a deep understanding and appreciation of the strategic and operational challenges in the Health Sector
The ideal candidate must be performance driven and keen to achieve results
Job Conditions:
Applicants outside the GHS must be able to serve a full term of four (4) years effective 1 October 2010 before attaining the compulsory retiring age of 60years
