The Ghana Legal Aid Scheme is a public service organisation within the Justice delivery system of Ghana. It is one of the component institutions over which the Ministry for Justice has oversight responsibility and is governed by a twelve (12) member Board of Directors, The Scheme operates countrywide from ten (10) offices in all the Regional capitals.
The Scheme is tasked under the Legal Aid Scheme Act 1997 (Act 542) to provide legal assistance to the poor and indigent, as well as other persons in the prosecution and defence of their rights under the Constitution of Ghana
Job Description
Job Location: Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions
Directs and supervises the work in the Region/Division
Carries out the day-to-day administration and management of the Scheme in the Region/Division
Serves as Secretary to the Regional Legal Aid Committee
Ensures the collation and submission of half yearly, annual and other reports in time to the Director
Reviews cases and recommends Officers to be assigned cases for appropriate action
Represents clients in court, when necessary
Initiates and advises the Regional Committee on policy matters
Implements the decisions of the Board and the Regional Committee
Assists in the review of cases for appropriate action
Supervises the organisation of regular review meetings
Performs any other functions to be assigned by the Executive Director
SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE:
Remuneration is attractive with fringe benefits. Conditions of service are the same as those applicable in the Judicial and Legal Service of Ghana
Required Skills or Experience
A minimum of Barrister-at-Law (BL) certificate awarded by the General Legal Council of Ghana
Must have been called to the Bar in Ghana
A minimum of ten (10) years post call relevant work experience in private or public institution(s) five (5) years of which should have been in a senior management position
Candidate must be computer literate
Must pass an interview conducted by the Public Services Commission
