GIZ, a German bilateral organisation in Ghana is seeking performance-oriented individuals to fill the above mentioned position. The vacancy advertised is for a Junior Communications Officer for the project The African Cashew initiative – ACi. The Junior Communications Officer will – ideally from November 01, 2011 or earlier – complete the regional Team of ACi in the Regional Project Office in Airport Residential Area in Accra, Ghana.

Project Description:
The African Cashew initiative is strengthening the cashew sector in five different African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Mozambique) assigned by various International private and public clients. The GIZ is the lead agency in implementing the various cashew related activities of the project. Additional annual income of a minimum of USD 15 million will be generated for 150,000 cashew producers, i.e. a minimum of 100 USD increase in the cashew-related income per family. The project will contribute to creating employment for 5,500 persons – mainly women – in processing leading to an annual income of USD 5 million for these employees, or USD 900 per household.

Key Responsibilities:

The Junior Communications Officer will assist the team in its internal and external communications. The candidate has to be able to work very independently and pro-actively.
The candidate must proof stress-resistance and efficient working during very busy times.
The candidate must be fluent in English and is preferably able to read, write and speak French. He or She has professional experience in working in a big international team with various private and public sector clients from USA and Europe and an international group colleagues. Practical working experience in development cooperation, corporate communication, international companies and/or media houses is an asset. Very good software skills in the usual MS programs and Outlook are obligatory

Detailed tasks will be:
External communication:
Development of national communications strategies for the project;
Production of communication products, PR material;
Development and maintenance of productive and positive relationship with local media to publicize the project;
Management of project’s website;
Production of weekly press clippings (newspaper hardcopies and online media) on the project ACi as well as the cashew sector in West African and agriculture economics world-wide;
Creation of inputs for the GIZ internal media and other publications and newsletter

Internal communication:
Knowledge Management: document management, knowledge sharing platforms (Online blogs, Brown Bag Lunches, meetings etc);
Co-ordination of logistical organisation of meetings and events
Support of the planning and preparation of content of upcoming events (conferences, meetings, etc);
Follow up on recommendations after meetings and conferences to ensure their implementation
Moderation for specific internal meetings

Required Skills or Experience

A degree in communications/PR from a reputed university
Professional working experience in a similar position
Excellent communication, organisation and consulting skills;
Good working knowledge of computer programs (e.g. MS Office); knowledge of graphic design programs is an asset;
Demonstrated ability to work independently;
Fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of German and French is an asset
