Gold Fields Ghana: Unit Manager

Purpose of the Job:
To employ an experienced and self motivated Unit Manager -Management Accountant who will apply acquired knowledge and experience in the mining industry to manage the entire management and cost of accounting function at Tarkwa Mine. The incumbent will be responsible for the implementation of best practice cost control standards, processes and procedures supporting the achievement of set targets and the consoliation of operational financial statements as well as evaluate business opportunities to the benefit of the operation

Establishing and implementing effective operational and strategic planning to ensure that management systems, processes, policies and resources are in place to meet the short and long term demands of the financial portfolio
Demonstrating an understanding of the cost drivers and how they impact on the business
Establishing and implementing effective cost control and forecasting strategies/measures to ensure the long-term sustain ability of the operation
Ensuring all applicable legislation (including specifically Sarbanes Oxley) is adhered to and that national and international accounting standards are compiled with
Effective liaison with a host of internal and external parties including detailed financial reporting to the Corporate Offfice
Ensure financial governace and financial business ethics
Identifying and exploring business opportunities/processes to realise continuous improvement
Meeting high environmental and safety standards
Development and mentoring of financial department staff towards industry best practices
Taking control and ensuring that Accounting systems are developed and implemented
Adhoc exercise.

Required Skills or Experience

A recognised financial tertiary qualification
A minimum of three (3) years experience in financial services at management level in the mining industry
Proven leadership, interpersonal and organisational skills
A high level of computer literacy in the use and applicant of MS Office
Medical fitness for the position and environment
Well developed oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to interact with people of diverse cultures and levels
Strong Analytical, Interpersonal and Organisational Skills
A hands-on approach and be willing to work long hours to obtain required results
Valid driver’s license and proficiency in driving light vehicles
It would be advantageous if applicant have:
A related post-graduate qualification and/or relevant business qualification
Working knowledge of Six Sigma
Working knowledge and practical application of SAP ERP systems
Ghanaian, African or international work experience obtained outside their home country
