Job Description

A vacancy exists at the Mine Maintenance Department for the position.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Mine Maintenance Manager shall be responsible for the management of and improvement to the maintenance functions pertaining to the Wassa Operations Unit incorporating the maintenance of the drilling, loading and haulage fleet as well as light vehicles and stationary diesel driven units and for implementing cost-effective short & long term plans designed to ensure the consistent, reliable and cost effective operation of such critical department

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Managing all operations within Mine Maintenance so that they operate within the Mining regulations of Ghana, established corporate and GSWL policies and in accordance with the authority delegated by the Operations Manager
Maintaining efficiency and cost-effectiveness of all maintenance aspects of drilling, loading, hauling and light vehicles in accordance with the Wassa operation plans
Promoting health, safety and environmental programs targeting zero work-related injuries and illnesses within the mine team,
Ensuring that utilisation and availability of equipment throughout the Mine is maximised through liaison with the Manager Production and cooperating in the implementation of effective short and long-term preventive maintenance plans and the scheduled upgrade/replacement of equipment
Reviewing projections for capital and operating expenditure and regularly monitors performance against budgeted financial targets in order to minimise cost without adversely impacting efficiencies
Examining technical trends as they affect the mine maintenance function and proactively implements activities to minimize risks and optimise opportunities
Measuring the performance of the Mine maintenance team members and provides effective leadership and top-down and bottom-up communication throughout the Mine maintenance area
Ensuring that employees in the Mine maintenance area are highly motivated, competent and well trained
Remuneration: This is a senior management position and goes with a very attractive salary package and other fringe benefits

Required Skills or Experience

A degree or Diploma in engineering discipline or its equivalent from a recognised institution
10-15 years in the management and leading of maintenance team or groups in the mining resource sector. Experience in multi cultural work environment would be an added advantage
Proven track record in managing mobile plant maintenance functions in large scale mining projects
Adequate interpersonal skills and methods that inspire and guide the team members towards goal achievement, an environment of continuous improvement
Ability to select, implement and commit to actions after developing appropriate strategies that are base on logical assumptions, factual information, and have taken into constraints and organisational values
Able to work effectively with all stake holders to accomplish organisational goals, be able to communicate team direction and, project by personal example, the need for strong team leadership
Think and deal with issues in a managers’ domain with the capability and skill to contribute at higher organisational levels
