1. Deputy Executive Director (Finance and Administration)

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) invites applications from suitably qualified Ghanaians who are goal oriented, results driven, with exceptional leadership qualities and enthusiasm for appointment to the under-mentioned position.

Object of the Position:
The Deputy Executive Director (Finance and Administration) provides support to the Executive Director in the day to day administration and management of the Agency.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for handling all matters relating to the functioning of the Governing Board of the Agency, and the implementation of Board decisions
  • Prepares and maintains a fixed assets register for the Agency
  • Establishes and maintains an effective and efficient management information system
  • Leads the preparation and implementation of the annual budget of the Agency
  • Coordinates, plans and ensures the availability of resource (human, material and finances) to support the activities of the Agency
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of policies related to general services of the Agency
  • Designs and maintains reliable internal control systems to safeguard the Agency’s resources
  • Exercises managerial and oversight for human resource, finance and administrative activities of the Agency
  • Performs any other duties assigned by the Executive Director

Terms of Appointment and Remuneration:

  • The terms and conditions of the appointment are in conformity with that of the public service. Compensation package attached to the post is very attractive.

 

Required Skills or Experience

 

  • A minimum of a post-graduate degree in any of the Physical and Biological Sciences, Engineering, Social Sciences, Planning, Development, Economics, Management, Law or related fields
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years’ post-qualification relevant work experience in a scientific, academic or business environment, seven (7) years of which should be in a senior managerial position at a regulatory institution

Competencies and Skills:

  • Strong leadership and managerial skills
  • Ability to meet challenges of a growing and dynamic regulatory organization
  • Excellent communication and good human relations skills
  • Excellent Planning, technical and conceptual skills
  • Extensive experience in environment, management/research

 

2. Deputy Executive Director (Operations Support and Research)

Object of the Position:
The Deputy Executive Director (Operations, Support and Research) provides technical support to the Executive Director for the achievement of the mandate of the Agency.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops corporate plans and strategies for a sustainable environmental management
  • Assesses the appropriateness of programme directions and determines the need for redirection
  • Adjusts schedules and resources as necessary in order to accommodate changes in the Agency’s priorities
  • Oversees the development and implementation of comprehensive regional programme activities
  • Designs and conducts comprehensive management studies on complex environmental issues
  • Consults and advises the Executive Director on all policies, programmes and activities
  • Develops strong and effective corporate research work base within the departments of the Agency, and with external institutions of research

3. Executive Director

Object of the Position:
The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the strategic direction and management of the Agency. He or she has the general responsibility for maintaining and promoting efficiency, effectiveness and good order of the Agency in relation to objectives as may be defined from time to time by the Governing Board, to which he or she reports.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides strategic direction and management of the Agency
  • Performs general management functions
  • Ensures oversight responsibility on EPA’s governance and risk management arrangement
  • participates in negotiations and conflict resolution sessions
  • Ensures prudent allocation and management of the Agency’s resources
  • Advises on the formulation of environmental policies and makes recommendations on its protection
  • Coordinates activities of bodies concerned with technical aspects of the environment
  • Implements policies on the Regulation of activities which are hazardous and potentially dangerous to the quality of the environment
  • Collaborates with stakeholders and foreign and international agencies in the protection and management of the environment
  • Conducts and promotes investigations, studies and research into environmental issues and creates public awareness of the environment

Terms of Appointment and Remuneration:

  • The appointment is for an initial period of five (5) years, renewable for another term. The terms and conditions of the appointment are in conformity with those of the public service. Compensation package attached to the post is very attractive.

 

Required Skills or Experience

 

  • A minimum of a post-graduate degree in any of the Physical and Biological Science, Engineering, Social Sciences, Planning, Development, Economics, Management, Law or related fields
  • A minimum of twenty (20) years’ post-qualification relevant work experience in a scientific, academic or business environment, ten (10) years of which should be in a senior managerial position at a regulatory institution

Competencies and Skills:

  • Strong leadership and managerial skills
  • Ability to meet challenges of a growing and dynamic regulatory organization
  • Excellent communication and good human relations skills
  • Excellent Planning, technical and conceptual skills
  • Extensive experience in environment, management/research
