Job vacancy: Educationist – Education for Empowerment (EfE) Programme

IBIS is an International Non Government Organization which has been operating in Ghana since 2001. Our Africa Against Poverty Programme (AAP) started in 2006 and this 3rd Phase is scheduled to run to 2014. The goal is to address global structural causes of poverty and to collaborate with others – both nationally, regionally and internationally – to spark activities that influence policies and strategies that eliminate poverty.

Job Description

IBIS – a Danish INGO operating in Ghana since 2001 – is seeking an Educationist with experience in Education to work with its Education for Empowerment (EfE) programme. The position is based in Tamale with extensive travel in the country, especially the 3 Northern Regions and Brong Ahafo. IBIS promotes interface between civil society organisations and government and the Programme Advisor will be required to have experience in this area. The ability to speak French would also be an advantage. This post is both an exciting and challenging position and offers a unique opportunity for the right individual to make a significant impact in furthering the strategic development of this successful programme, combining technical knowledge of education and practical development of work.

The Role:

  • Support GES District Directorates to carry out continuous professional development of teachers and Programme Facilitators in the programme areas
  • Support to coordinate the Programme strategies on the collaboration between Civil Society Organisations and state institutions to promote learning
  • Supporting EfE team members to plan and manage events
  • Assist EfE programme staff and partners in implementing the programme activities by offering technical support where necessary
  • Undertake periodic assessment of the effectiveness and impact of the programme interventions and to assist the education programme its partners to take timely corrective measures
  • Design and constantly up-date a quantitative and qualitative data base of EfE activities, especially at the results level
  • Under the supervision of the Programme Advisor, support partner organisations and staff to develop, conduct and assess all aspects of the training programmes and materials of the EfE Programme to ensure effectiveness and relevance

Required Skills or Experience

The Requirements:

  • Minimum academic requirement is a first degree in Education Psychology or Sociology. A post-graduate qualification will be an added advantage
  • Very good knowledge of the Education Sector in Ghana
  • A strong technical Education/Teacher Training background is required
  • Gender sensitivity in programme development
  • Ability to work independently within a team
  • Ability to speak and write French would be an advantage
