Institute of Professional Studies was established in 1965 as a private institution and was taken over by the Government in 1979; Subsequently, the Institute of Professional Studies Act of 1999 (Act 566) was enacted by Parliament which transformed it into a tertiary institution with the mandate to provide professional and academic education in the disciplines of Accountancy and Management.

The Institute attained full-fledged university status on 1st September, 2008 when it was granted a Presidential Charter. The Council of the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) hereby announces that the post of Registrar of the Institute of Professional Studies? will fall vacant from 1ST JULY, 2010, A successor is therefore being sought to replace the Registrar, MR. W. B. DAPAAH, who retires from the Institute as of that date.

Job Description

The position of Chief Security Officer is of a top executive in the Institute. He or She will report directly to a Senior Functional Executive (Rector/Registrar). The Chief Security Officer will oversee and co-ordinate security efforts across the Institute, including security issues relating to information circulation, human resources, facilities management among others and will identify security initiatives and standards
The qualified person will be responsible for the physical security, protection services and privacy of the Institute’s employees and students as well as:
Oversee a network of security personnel who safe guard the institute’s assets, and ensure the physical safety of students, staff and visitors, including work place violence prevention video surveillance, employee education and awarenes, and more
Identify protection goals and objectives consistent with the Institute’s strategic plans. Manage the development and implementation of global security policy, standards, guidelines and procedures to ensure ongoing maintenance of security at the Institute
Work with other executives to prioritise security initiatives and spending based on appropriate risk management
Maintain relationships with local and state law enforcement and other related government agencies
Oversee incident response planning as well as the investigation of security breaches, and assist with disciplinary matters associated with such breaches as necessary
Work with outside Consultants as appropriate for independent security audits

Required Skills or Experience

The Person:

Must be an intelligent, articulate and persuasive leader who can serve as an effective member of the Senior Management team and who is able to communicate security-related concepts to both technical and non-technical staff
Should have demonstrable experience with planning and risk management
Must have strong working knowledge of pertinent law and the law enforcement agencies
Must have solid understanding of information technology and information security
Must be an active listener, discerning and understanding utterances, actions and reactions to tap information
Must be active at monitoring and assessing performances of him/herself and others to make improvements or to take corrective action
Must have good oral and written communication skills
Must have critical thinking abilities such as using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses, alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
Must be a graduate of the Ghana Armed Forces Command Staff College or its equivalent in the Ghana Police Service
Must be a Lieutenant Colonel/Major or equivalent from the Ghana Police Service
The Chief Security Officer must have strong working knowledge of information technology and must possess administrative and managerial skills
Must have at least five (5) years working experience in a security agency and not more than fifty-two (52) years of age
