Overseas Assignments: Overseas assignments are for two years and a rotational agreement must be signed. The assignment may be extended based on the needs of the agency.

·         This position is eligible for special pay allowances (e.g.,
post differential, housing, relocation, etc.).

·         Immunizations are required and will be administered by the CDC
before relocating overseas.

·         Security clearances is required for the selectee only and medical clearances are required for selectee and all family members before being posted overseas.  Inability of selectee to secure the clearances for overseas duty within six (6) months will result in termination of appointment to the position.

·         Citizens or permanent residents of the host country are not eligible to be considered.

Major Duties:

If selected you will:

• Consult on matters relating to laboratory systems analysis and developmental planning, operational research and all aspects of laboratory quality assurance.
• Manage significant projects, programs and staff and will represent CDC with the Embassy
• Conceive, implement and direct laboratory program activities
• Provide leadership in developing scientific policy as it relates to laboratory practice in chronic, infectious and zoonotic diseases.
• Provide consultation to host country, international organizations and grantees.
• Write reports, abstracts, articles, opinions and makes oral presentations to disseminate operational research findings and to advocate for laboratory programs.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

Must possess a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor`s or higher degree with major study in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.

Minimum Qualifications for Health Scientist (LAB, GS-601-13/14/15:

In order to qualify applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (for which you are applying) in the Federal Service.  Specialized experience in providing scientific leadership for programs directed to eliminating health disparities
in populations disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS, STDs, TB and other related diseases and conditions

GS-13:  To be eligible for this grade you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level (or equivalent) in the Federal Service.

GS-14:  To be eligible for this grade you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level (or equivalent) in the Federal Service.

GS-15:  To be eligible for this grade you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-14 grade level (or equivalent) in the Federal Service.

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. 1. Security and Background Requirements: If not previously completed, a background security investigation will be required for all appointees. Appointment will be subject to the applicant’s successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements may be grounds for appropriate personnel action.
