Job Description
Reporting to: Engineering Manager – Ghana
Project: Esaase Gold Project, Ghana, West Africa
Location: Ghana, with travel as required to the Esaase project site in the kumasi area, as well as the engineering consultants’ office in Perth, Australia and various locations as and when required.
- The Senior Electrical Engineer will work as part of a multi-disciplined owner’s development team taking the lead role in overseeing all aspects of the Grid Interconnection and development for the Esaase Gold Project.
- The project is currently in the final stage of a Pre-Feasibility study with a Feasibility initiated in parallel.
The Senior Electrical Engineer will oversee and take the lead role and ownership of all aspects associated with site electrical supply, power distribution configuration, custom power supplies, and interfacing of electrical subsystems with the process control hardware, and primarily be the lead technical liaison between Keegan and the national grid provider GRIDco.
- This role will suit an experienced electrical engineer with technical and analytical skills and strong interpersonal skills. Proven international experience is an asset
- Provide input to the development and implementation of the overall project execution strategy
- Deliver work on time and on budget to the highest professional standards
- Manage and coordinate all design and procurement activities required for the transmission power line and substation associated with the project
- Understand and interpret applicable design codes, design standards and specification requirements as per Ghanaian legislation and regulatory requirements
- Follow project through detailed design engineering, evaluating construction packages and ensuring constructability
- Provide direction and input in the development and submission of regulatory permitting requirements
- Provide electrical discipline leadership and support to the Engineering team
- Provide estimates for engineering work as and when required
- Provide construction and commissioning support
- Maintain complete project documentation with respect to transmission line design and construction, including all completion packages, as-build requirements and return data information
- Review project documentation for scope, presentation and technical accuracy
- Review internal and external designs for code compliance, good design and constructability
- Resolve site queries, attend site meetings and perform site inspections during the construction phase of projects
Required Skills or Experience
- 15+ years of experience in detailed electrical design for power distribution
- Familiarity with Ghanaian Code and utilities regulations
- Proficiency with MS Office; experience with CADD and knowledge of 3D design/drafting techniques
- Proven track record in leading and participating in development of power generating plants, substations, transmission lines, and utility interconnections
- Knowledge of HV and MV substation, utilities, grounding, power distribution, power systems study and coordination, switchgear, MCC, lighting, and fire alarm systems
- Experience in a plant engineering environment, design activities, component specification and construction support is an asset
- Ability to mentor junior personnel, including engineers and designers
- Knowledge of relevant safety and health standards
- Strong report writing and excellent communication
- Knowledge of OHS Act Knowledge of Mine Health & Safety Act would be an asset
- Corporate membership of the Ghana Institution of Engineers
- Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering
