The individual will report to the Managing Director and lead the Risk Department of the Bank in developing an integrated Risk function that supports the Managing Director with key capacities. Will provide strategic direction, motivational leadership and operational oversight for the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear direction on strategic goals, translating and prioritizing them into business and performance measures
  • Support the business teams in development of risk-related products, and planning of business development strategies with acceptable risk parameters
  • Prepare the Bank’s Risk Appetite Statement for the consideration and approval by the Board
  • Jointly with the Chief Finance Officer take responsibility for the reconciliation and accuracy of the impairment numbers
  • Analyze risk-related management information to allow decisions to be made regarding the direction of the Bank, it’s performance against target, it’s position against competitor’s and it’s short, medium and long term strategies
  • Implement an effective Risk operating model and facilitate Risk Planning across the Business
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and peers on EMC to ensure correct focus
  • Provide high quality risk management to agreed service levels
  • Contribute to the leadership of Bank with dedicated and singular focus on execution and delivery
  • Represent the Risk function at Executive Management Committee, Asset & Liability Committee (ALCO) and the Credit Committee ensuring the correct specialist knowledge is brought in to inform these committees according to agenda requirements
  • Lead the development of a framework for credit risk management including policies and procedures
  • Develop, modify and test models for credit risk measurement and management
  • Periodically review best practices in the area of Risk Management
  • Accountable for forecasts and performance against forecasts on the impairments line on the P&L and for RWA’s/Economic capital requirements in the Balance Sheet
  • Development of stress scenarios and testing providing insight to a range of possible outcomes and thereby avoiding surprises
  • Develop Basel compliant models and maintain these, thereby ensuring quality and timely delivery of automated decisions, Impairment Costs, RWA calculations and Regulatory returns
  • Be the accountable executive for managing third party vendors or service providers of Risk Management tools or systems

 

Required Skills or Experience

  • Bachelors degree in a quantitative subject. Master degree or CFA preferred
  • Working knowledge of “best in class” practices associated with Risk Management infrastructure
  • 12 years experience in banking with 6 years of risk management experience
  • A strong track record at senior level in a risk management role in a commercial bank
  • A solid quantitative and analytical background with excellent understanding of models for measuring Value at Risk (VaR) including the concepts of default probability, Loss Given Default (LGD) and rating migration
  • Computation and allocation of Economic Capital and risk adjusted performance measurement
  • Familiarity with Moody’s Risk Analyst application will be an added advantage
  • Experience in the development of internal rating models
  • Specific experience in the quantification and management of project related credit risk would be a definite advantage
  • A good understanding of statistics, mathematics and modeling techniques
  • Experience identifying, measuring and managing credit risk across a range of asset classes
  • Experience with market risk measurement and control and funds Transfer pricing models
  • A sound understanding of the Basel II framework including experience with the computational process
  • A sound understanding of the requirements of International Financial Reporting (IFRS) 39 on credit impairments
  • Must have excellent communication, leadership, negotiation, people and change management skills
