Job Title: Solid Waste Management Officer
Reports To: Project Director
Duration: One Year Contract – Renewable on Annual Basis upon Satisfactory Performance
CHF International is seeking for a Solid Waste Management Officer for the implementation of key activity components of the CHF International program “Youth Engagement in Service Delivery (YES)” funded by Gates Foundation. The program will provide targeted technical and organisational capacity building to selected youth and solid waste related value chain actors to address the solid waste problem as well as create livelihood opportunities for youth in poor urban Accra communities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as the project’s leads expert on solid waste management (Collection, separation, re-use etc) including project design and maintenance;
Advice project partners in the field of SWM and the project implementation;
Assist in developing and maintaining a sound and sustainable solid waste management strategy;
Be responsible for implementation of source separation scheme, quality control of operations of compost plant, plastic fashion accessories centres and other waste value addition pilot facilities;
Support short-term consultants and experts of the project to fulfil their tasks during their assignment;
Assist in developing linkages with youth friendly solid waste services;
Assist in conducting environmental and social impact assessments in a value-chain assessment of the solid waste management sector;
Conduct basic trainings in SWM and related areas of capacity building with CHF International Capacity Building Team;
Support in building capacity of public, private and NGO partners for value addition and improved coverage of solid waste services;
Assist in the planning, coordination, and documenting the results of the activities with CHF International M &E and Knowledge Management team;
Assist in establishing and maintaining linkages with solid waste and youth related actors;
Documents all processes, outputs and lessons learnt on the project interventions.

Required Skills or Experience
At least a Bachelors degree in environmental, civil or public health engineering
At least 6years experience in the solid waste management consultancy or programming in Ghana or a Masters degree with 3 years working experience;
Experience in working with staff, community organisations and government officials and coordinating multiple organisations to implement projects as desirable;
Strong organisational and interpersonal skills;
Ability to work in a team-oriented setting
Excellent oral and written communications skills in English language;
High degree of computer literacy; MS Excel and MS and Word are essential;
Strong network within solid waste stakeholders or actors in Accra would be an added advantage.
Knowledge in source separation of waste, value addition and Clean Development Mechanism processes is essential.
Excellent organisational skills and ability to determine priorities and respect deadlines
