The Department for International Development (DFID) is the UK Government department responsible for promoting sustainable development and reducing poverty. DFID is a highly regarded professional development organisation and one of Ghana’s leading bilateral Development Partners. DFID’s programme in Ghana is expanding. DFID is seeking motivated, experienced and capable professionals to join a challenging and exciting team.

The successful candidate will help design and implement DFID’s projects in Ghana, lead and provide advice for DFID in governance-related areas and be part of a broader team involved in strategy development, monitoring and evaluation.

  • Managing a range of governance-related projects in the areas of oil and gas, public financial management, elections and broader democratic governance, peace building and conflict resolution
  • Conducting political economy analyses and providing advice to DFID on issues relating to elections, northern development, Millennium Villages, Private provision of basic services, social protection systems in Ghana and the Oil and Gas Industry
  • Keeping track, and providing input into development in the areas of Public Sector Reform and Anti-Corruption
  • Providing governance inputs into ongoing programme work on health, education and social protection

Terms of Employment: These position are three year fixed term contracts.
 

Required Skills or Experience

  • A good first degree and preferably a Masters Degree in a relevant subject (Politics, Economics, Public Administration, Management or related discipline)
  • A minimum of 2 years relevant experience, preferably in a donor agency, International NGO or Embassy
  • Good experience of programme management
  • Ability to analyse and apply political economy knowledge and tools in policy work as well as in sector programmes and projects
  • Core skills in public sector governance and ability to deliver essential public services including capacity development and improvement of government service delivery
  • Excellent financial management skills
  • Knowledge of the development context in Ghana and associated political and economic issues
  • Knowledge of civil society work in Ghana
  • Knowledge on human rights and freedom issues at a local and international level
  • Must have a broad understanding of the underpinnings of corruption both locally and internationally
