Chief Accountant

Reports to: Financial Controller
Department: Finance

Position Summary:
The chief Accountant supports the Financial Controller in the coordination of the company’s general accounting activities to ensure timely and accurate delivery of financial information whilst providing analytical and technical finance support to the organisation.

Duties:

  • Perform month-end closure by preparing and submitting in a timely manner accurate KARS Trial Balance, Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statements in accordance with the corporate time table and reporting requirements.
  • Perform monthly inventory valuation – i.e. ore stockpiles, in-process gold, and finished gold, etc.
  • Manage the amortisation of deferred development expenditure.
  • Prepare / review supplementary and other supporting documentation to meet reporting deadlines.
  • Review payment documentation for completeness and posting accuracy
  • Review reconciliations – i.e. bank, petty cash, advances, accruals, prepayments, etc.
  • Participate in bullion shipment.
  • Collect operational and financial statistics from various departmental sources and update KARS on monthly basis in accordance with corporate timelines.
  • Support the internal and external audit process
  • Arrange timely payment of such taxes as NFSL, Mineral Royalty, corporate taxes, etc.
  • Perform various special projects and analysis as requested by management.
  • Manage the charts of accounts

 

Required Skills or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Professional qualification – i.e. CIMA, ACCA, CA or its equivalent
  • 5 years’ experience in similar accounting / supervisory role
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and demanding environment
  • Must be well versed in MS Excel
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Knowledge of Sun Accounting System or an ERP would be a plus
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles (thorough understanding of GL account reconciliation and other accounting processes)
  • Experience in Mining or Extractive industry is preferred
Capital/Project Accountant

Report to: Finance Manager
Department: Finance

Position Summary:
Ensure accurate and reliable accounting for capital projects.

Duties:

  • Track purchase orders and other commitments by project
  • Ensure commitments and expenditures against a project are appropriate to and within the scope and design of the project per the approved AFE (Authorisation for Expenditure).
  • Ensure receipts and expenditures against a project are booked in the appropriate period
  • Enforce advanced approvals of spending and significant variances to approved spending levels, principally by assisting with forecasts of spending, inclusive of commitments, and comparing the resultant forecasts with budgeted and approved amounts
  • Support our tax consultants by periodically providing them with a comprehensive list of additions to PP&E in line with the appropriate tax classifications for capital allowance computations.
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of Fixed Assets Register
  • Conduct periodic fixed assets verifications and tagging
  • Assist in management of the asset disposal process.
  • Prepare journal entries for depreciation, transfers, impairments, disposals, etc and participate in other month-end closure activities.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of Capital Works-in-Progress account per project
  • xi. Prepare and submit to management a monthly report on the overall capital expenditure status.
  • xii. Demonstrate team work particularly by working with project managers, purchasing-buyers, project consultants, etc engaged in the capex process.

 

Required Skills or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 3 years’ experience in similar accounting role
  • Must be well versed in MS Excel
  • Experience in Mining industry is preferred
Account Payables Supervisor

Reports to: Chief Accountant

Position Summary:
Ensure effective and efficient management of account payables of Chirano Gold Mines Ltd and Red Back Mining (Gh) Ltd

Duties:

  • Supervise the Payables section.
  • Ensure all invoices / debit notes/ are properly registered, coded, and approved by the appropriate authority before they are processed for payment
  • Ensure all invoices are appropriately matched with relevant purchase orders, goods received notes, contracts, agreements, etc. before they are processed for payment
  • Effectively collaborate with treasury to manage payment due-dates to ensure compliance with purchase order and contractual terms.
  • Supervise quarterly reconciliation of supplier accounts.
  • Prepare and circularise quarterly statements of account to vendors and resolve all related queries.
  • Develop initiatives to identify and resolve underlying causes of errors and omissions that lead to disputed accounts.
  • Monitor the age of advance payments to suppliers and advise on exceptional balances / accounts.
  • Ensure all payments are in compliance with the appropriate legal requirements such as VAT, Withholding Tax, etc.
  • Prepare, file returns, and ensure payments in a timely manner of such obligations as VAT, Withholding Tax, etc.
  • Ensure suppliers and contractors are appropriately invoiced for items / services received from CGML and accordingly recovered from their payments.
  • Ensure the payables section timely participates in month, quarter, and year-end closing in accordance with the corporate time table and reporting requirements.
