Position Overview

Job Description

Job Title: Communications Officer

MBC Africa is currently seeking an exceptional candidate to join our team as a Communications Officer. The successful candidate will work with all of the teams within MBC Africa to ensure that they have the materials they need to communicate effectively with external partners. This may involve designing PowerPoint presentations, designing and printing flyers and banners, writing press releases, communicating with newspaper and television media, updating the MBC Africa website, and posting regularly on the MBC Africa Facebook and Twitter pages.

Another aspect of the Communications Officer role will be to coordinate the MBC Africa Clubs. MBC Africa has been hosting agribusiness accelerator programs in various regions of Ghana over the past 2 years, and now there is a need to engage the alumni of these programs to facilitate continued sharing of learning between past participant businesses. Since MBC Africa desires to promote the continued success of businesses that have participated in past agribusiness accelerator programs, the Communications Officer will coordinate the provision of an online business management skills development training program to these businesses.

Ideally the successful candidate will be someone with a passion for graphic design and web development and who enjoys crafting marketing messages for the public, all while maintaining a strong focus on helping agribusinesses in Ghana develop to their greatest potential. Responsibilities

To achieve the desired results, the Communications Officer will be expected to do the following:

  • Regularly update MBC Africa’s website and social media pages
  • Design all communications materials for MBC Africa and use these materials to promote MBC Africa to our target groups
  • Organize publicity events to increase MBC Africa’s exposure and bring agribusinesses and youth into the pipeline for our programs
  • Lead the design and implementation of the MBC clubs
  • Manage all activities under the MBC clubs
  • Occasionally assist with the development of funding and partnership proposals

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a marketing, communications, or IT-related field
  • High proficiency in written and verbal English communications, with a good command of proper English sentence structure and grammar
  • Ability to edit WordPress websites
  • Ability to use design software such as Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw
  • Ability to write proposals for funding and partnerships with other organizations
  • Flexible and creative mindset coupled with a persistence to achieve results
  • Ability to work independently and be held accountable for project deliverables
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and rapport-building skills, particularly in a diverse, multicultural environment

Desirable Qualification and Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in French
  • 1-3 years of prior work experience in a marketing, web design, or communications role
  • Experience working with agricultural businesses in Ghana

Probationary Period Start Date: April 17th, 2017

Probationary Period End Date: July 14th, 2017

Estimated Hours Per Week: 40, depending on project schedules and timing

Reporting to: Eric Osei, Relationship Manager – MBC Africa

Location: East Legon, Greater Accra

 

Compensation

The successful candidate will be compensated in line with other mid-level management positions in Ghana. Project disbursement costs such as local travel, work-related phone/data credit, and site accommodations (during trips outside Accra) will be covered by MBC Africa.

This position is open to all persons legally qualified to work in Ghana.
