The MRC Unit, The Gambia is the Council’s largest establishment conducting medical research in a developing country. The Unit aims to improve the health of people in low-income countries by excellence in a multi-disciplinary research programmes. We have developed an exciting research agenda to reflect changes in national and global health priorities. Our new science portfolio is organized around three themes: Child Survival, Disease Control & Elimination and Vaccination.
Job Description
The Unit wishes to recruit an Operations Manager for its Baase Field Station, which is the largest MRC Field Station in The Gambia in terms of the number of staff and project based there. It formally opened in 1982, and has been the base for a number of large, successful, internationally significant clinical research trials since then, as well as numerous smaller trials and projects.
The appointment will be for 3 years and is subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
The Salary will be in Occupational Group E1/E2 dependent on qualifications and experience. For displaced staff the package will include rent-free furnished and accommodation, flights, contribution to school fees and shipment of personal effects
Required Skills or Experience
Although not essential, experience in a health related research field and experience of working in Africa in a rural area would be an advantage.
