The National Labour Commission (NLC) was establish in consonance with the Labour Act 2003, Act 651. Its main mission is to promote a peaceful and harmonious industrial relations in the country. The Commission consists of seven commissioners (nominated by government, employers and organised labour), inaugurated by the President on 6th April 2005, and a secretariat. The NLC�s functions and powers are stipulated in sections 138 and 139 of the Act.

Job Description

The National Labour Commission (NLC) established under the Labour Act, 2003, Act 651 invites suitably qualified applicants to fill the vacancy position.

Duties:
Under the direction of the Head of Secretariat :

  • Provide legal opinion and represent the Commission in court
  • Liaise with the Attorney-Generals  Department, the Law Reform Commission and related bodies on the various Arts, Legislative Instruments, Constitutional Instruments and related materials that impact on the functions and procedures of the Commission
  • Explain the functions and procedures of the Commission to clients
  • Enforce the Commission’s Rulings, Orders and Directives in the Law Courts
  • Guide complaints in the use of the Commission’s complaint form
  • Prepare reports on decisions taken by the Commission in the settlement of all industrial disputes
  • Undertake any other duties that may be assigned from time-to-time

Salary: The salary level is attractive and commensurate to the position
 

Required Skills or Experience

Advertisement
  • Must have the relevant educational and professional certificates and be admitted to the Ghana Bar
  • Must have practiced for at least four (4) years in Ghana
  • Must have a good knowledge in Ghana Labour Laws and relevant International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conventions and Recommendations
  • Must be knowledgeable in Collective Bargaining

Essential Qualities:

  • Must be results-oriented
  • Must be innovative and a self-starter
  • Must have a good track record of team membership skills
  • Must be able to work with little or no supervision
  • Must be able to work under pressure
  • Must have a good command of the English Language (both spoken and written) and must be an effective communicator
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be computer literate
