National Labour Commission (NLC) was establish in consonance with the Labour Act 2003, Act 651. Its main mission is to promote a peaceful and harmonious industrial relations in the country. The Commission consists of seven commissioners (nominated by government, employers and organised labour), inaugurated by the President on 6th April 2005, and a secretariat. The NLCs functions and powers are stipulated in sections 138 and 139 of the Act.

Job Description

Duty Station: The duty station for both positions will be either Accra or Sekondi/Takoradi and is dependent at the time of engagement

Position:
Work at the Research Department

Duties:

Investigate complaints lodged with the Commission with respect to Unfair Labour Practices in an establishment or undertaking
Research into the various issues that often result in labour disputes
Research into various conventions and laws relating to rights of employers and employees and protection of employment
Carry out research in other areas that will be relevant to the Commission’s work
Assist in the resolution of complaint’s submitted to the Commission
Salary:
The salary level attached to each of the above positions is attractive and commensurate to the position

Required Skills or Experience

A good first degree in any of the Social Sciences
Knowledgeble in Collective Bargaining
Working knowledge in Industrial Relations and in a similar field for at least two years
Computer Literate

Additional Requirements:
Diploma/Certificate in Industrial Relations
Must be able to work with little or no supervision
Must be able to work under pressure
A good command of the English Language both spoken and written
Ability to face challenges and use own initiative at difficult times
A call to the Ghana Bar with at least two (2) years post-call experience will be an added advantage
