Job Description

Job Title: GIS Database Administrator

PURPOSE:

To execute field-oriented exploration assignments to identify gold resources that has the potential of becoming mine able reserves.

Assist in technical completion of specific parts of exploration, development and mining programs under supervision with the goal of exploiting known deposits and discovering new economic gold ounces to extend mine life and improve project viability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

Collect, record and interpret geological and geotechnical data including field mapping of geological, geomorphological and regolith characteristics, and pit, trench plus drill hole logging.

Input data (field mapping observations, drill hole logging) into database & GIS softwares.

Provide interpretation of GIS (MapInfo) of multiple data sets and plan follow-up programs.

Supervise technicians and junior geologists in mapping, sample collection, drilling, and related activities and also drilling, bulldozer and geological contractors

Plan, supervise and interpret geochemical sampling programmes.

Assist with planning and interpreting geophysical programmes.

Prepare technical reports such as monthly, quarterly, annul, project completion, and environmental regulatory reports. Computer drafting and graph/charts activities may be required.

Become familiar with the Newmont Values and the Companies Safety, Environmental and Community standards and procedures.

Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and the environment and the ability to work safely on a daily basis and in accordance with the Site Policies and Procedures.

Seek to understand any issues relating to the local communities and communicate any security

Interact effectively with all other Company groups or teams to support company needs, in a timely manner, with flexibility, and using best practices.

Communicate well, both verbally and in written form, with diverse groups (internal and external).

Remain abreast of current developments in the geological discipline through industry, government contacts and review of literature and professional organizations. WORKING CONDITIONS:

Field based position at various locations (sometimes remote) in Ghana

Position requires majority of time spent in field or logging area. Time spent in the office is for data processing and interpretation as required.

Position is site based and requires majority of time spent in field or logging area

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: 

Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or related field with knowledge of basic geological principles.

2-5 years experience in mineral exploration, development and/or mining.

Intermediate to advanced software understanding of MapInfo and Discover.

Understanding of geology and geological concepts

Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and database management.

Demonstrate developing technical abilities in accurate mapping, logging, sampling and geophysical data collection and interpretation. Able to prepare maps and drill plans and sections with data and interpret.

Able to prioritize multiple tasks to be completed on time and to required standards and limited direct supervision.

Advanced level of written and spoken English

Able to communicate information to others including other departments
