Report to: Assistant Chief Proofreader
Job Summary:
To assist the Editor of Debates in ensuring that the Official Reports of the Proceedings of Parliament are published in accordance with standard English prose.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Proofread the results of the Typesetter’s work and verification proofread, ensuring that the editorial marks are made by the Editor have been followed by the typesetter;
- Proofread for consistency in usage and layout, for accuracy in the text and references and for typesetting errors;
- Review documents for correction of grammatical errors – typos or spelling errors, proper placement spelling, word usage, correct capitalisation, plurals, possessives, word division, correct punctuation, correct grammar, sentence structure, number style, correct formatting – accuracy and consistency-before typesetting and printing; and
- Ensure printable quality of the Daily Official Reports

Required Skills or Experience
- HND in Secretaryship and Management Studies or Stenographer Secretary
- Certificate issued by the Government Secretariat School/NACVET; and
- GCE ‘O’ Level/SSSCE/WASSCE with four (4) credit passes including English and Mathematics; and
- At least three (3) years experience in proofreading; Or
- GCE ‘O’ Level/SSSCE/WASSCE with four (4) credit passes including English and Mathematics and
- At least nine (9) years post-qualification experience in proofreading
Competencies and Skills:
- Must be computer literate in MS Office Word, MS Office Publisher and Adobe Page Maker;
- Must be proficient in both written and oral English; and
- Must be conversant with appropriate revision symbols to correct errors;
- Shortlisted candidates for the post will be required to undertake written and practical tests in English and Proofreading
2. Parliamentary Reporters-In-Training
- Selected candidates will be sponsored to attend an eight months’ course in English Language, Parliamentary Practice and Proceedings, Computer Applications, Typewriting, Reporting, Proofreading and Typesetting and shall be bonded after successful completion to serve the Parliamentary Service for a period of five (5) years.
Required Skills or Experience
- A good First Degree from a recognised University in English or Linguistics;
- Must be Computer Literate; and
- Age Limit – Applicants should not be more than 35 years;
3. Principal Typesetter
Reporting to: Assistant Chief Typesetter
Job Summary:
To assist the Editor of Debates in the production of the Official Reports of the Proceedings of Parliament in accordance with the Official Report (Hansard) style.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, arrange pages and typeset materials for printing; and
- Collate and correct manuscripts

Required Skills or Experience
- HND in Secretaryship and Management Studies or Stenographer Secretary
- Certificate issued by the Government Secretariat School/NACVET; and
- GCE ‘O’ Level/SSSCE/WASSCE with four (4) credit passes including English and Mathematics; and
- At least three (3) years experience in proofreading; Or
- GCE ‘O’ Level/SSSCE/WASSCE with four (4) credit passes including English and Mathematics and
- At least nine (9) years post-qualification experience in proofreading
Competencies and Skills:
- Must be computer literate in MS Office Word, MS Office Publisher and Adobe Page Maker;
- Evidence of training and usage of Desktop Publishing Software, Corel Draw, Page Planning. Typesetting, Graphic Designing, Microsoft Office Scanning;
- Must be able to import from other formats, including Excel and Corel Draw;
- Shortlisted candidates for the post will be required to undertake written and practical tests in English and Typesetting
