Job Title: Director of Academic Affairs

JOB PURPOSE:
Plan, implement and monitor all academic programmes in line with the corporate vision and mission.

DUTIES

•   Co-ordinate and supervise activities of the Academic Sector including development of course programmes
•   Provide input for the formulation, reviewing and updating of academic policies
•   Ensure timely provision of educational logistics
•   Provide input to the strategic planning process
•   Lead in Integrated brand marketing, ensuring academic standards and healthy student learning environment
•   Provide other related support for the Office of Graduate Studies and Research initiatives and for those initiatives identified as priorities by University Academic Committee

Qualification Required and Experience

•   Must possess Master’s Degree from a recognized institution in relevant field and good experience in Higher Education with a minimum of 10 years post qualification working experience, 5 years of which must be at senior management level in an educational institution.
•   PhD in relevant field will be an added advantage.

OTHER QUALITIES OR REQUIREMENTS

•   A clear understanding and commitment to the philosophy of a regional university is required
•   Proven record of spoken and/or written French will be an added advantage
•   Very strong interpersonal, communication and diplomatic skills
•   A high level of maturity, willingness and experience for leading and managing a technical team
•   Must be honest, self-disciplined and self-motivated

Job Title 2: Director of Administration

JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for Planning, Maintenance and Management of the administrative systems with optimum effectiveness of the University’s resources.

DUTIES

•   Co-ordinate and plan human resources and manpower
•   Ensure policies on recruitment, promotion, training and staff discipline are followed
•   Ensure efficient administration of the Performance Management System
•   Ensure healthy management/staff relationships
•   Plan and implement capacity building programmes for staff
•   Provide consolidated reports of capacity building initiatives and results
•   Analyze the University’s Human Resources status periodically and make recommendations to the Rector for required action
•   Supervise the management of the University’s medical scheme and general services
•   Perform duties of Secretary to the Board of Governors

Qualification Required and Experience

•   A Masters Degree in a relavant discipline with a minimum of 10 years relevant post qualification experience 7 of which must be in senior management position. Acquiring PhD, post-graduate degree or professional qualification in a relevant field will be an added advantage.

OTHER QUALITIES OR REQUIREMENTS

•   Proven record of spoken and/or written French will be an added advantage;
•   A strong interpersonal, communication and diplomatic skills;
•   Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines;
•   Good report writing skills;
•   Very strong analytical and quantitative skills;
•   Ability to work independently and proactively;
•   Must demonstrate a high sense of integrity;

Job Title 3: Estate Officer

JOB PURPOSE
To ensure proper maintenance of all facilities of the University.

DUTIES

•   Ensure that all facilities {e.g. plumbing, electrical etc.) are in good working condition
•   Ensure the maintenance of clean compound in the learning environment
•   Ensure prompt action on routine maintenance of University facilities
•   Appraise subordinate staff
•   Prepare and submit periodic reports on the unit
•   Ensure that minor repair works are carried out promptly
•   Maintain an assets register
•   Perform any other duties assigned from time to time

Qualification Required and Experience

•   A good First Degree in relevant discipline or its equivalent with a minimum of 5 years relevant post-qualification working experience. Membership of a Professional Body is an advantage.

The Board of Governors of the University invitesapplications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Rector, who will lead the University into the future with a business spirit to embrace current and future opportunities within themaritime sector.

Person specification-Rector
The Person must preferably possess a Doctoral Degree from a recognized institution in higher education or in a relevant maritime field with substantial years of post-qualification working experience.
