Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Deputy Country Director (O), the Finance Associate provides leadership in execution of financial services in CO ensuring effective and transparent utilization of financial resources and financial services integrity. The Finance Associate promotes a client-oriented approach consistent with UNDP rules and regulations.

Duties Include:

  • Full compliance of financial activities, financial recording/reporting system and audit follow up with UN/UNDP rules, regulations, policies and strategies; implementation of the effective internal control, proper functioning of a client-oriented financial resources management system
  • CO Finance business processes mapping and elaboration of the content of internal Standard Operating Procedures in Finance in consultation with office management
  • Preparation and modifications of UNDP management projects’ budgets, follow up with HQs on authorized spending limits (ASL) for management projects
  • Establishment of criteria for pro-ration of Agencies contributions to the common services account, preparation and modifications of the common services budget and follow up on timely recovery of payments
  • Proper control of the supporting documents for payments, review of the NEX projects Financial Reports
  • Maintenance of the internal expenditures control system which ensures that vouchers processed are matched and completed, transactions are correctly recorded and posted in Atlas; payrolls are duly prepared; travel claims, MPOs and other entitlements are duly processed
  • Regular update of information on the procedures and regulations pertaining to maintenance of the office bank accounts, control of deals management
  • Submission of the exchange rate report to HQs and upon delegation of responsibility can be a member of the Bank signatory panel
  • Sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice

Remuneration: In accordance with UN Guidelines
 

Required Skills or Experience

  • Secondary Education with specialized certification in Accounting and Finance. University Degree in Business or Public Administration would be desirable, but it is not a requirement
  • 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible Finance experience is required at the national or international level. Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) and advance knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web based management systems

Language Requirement: Fluency in the UN and national language of the duty station
