Vacancy: Conflict Transformation Project Officer

Duration: Initial One Year
Type of Appointment: Fixed Term Appointment

Under the overall guidance of the Peace and Governance Advisor, the Conflict Transformation Project Officer acts as an advisor to Senior Management on all aspects of programming related to peace building and conflict resolution practice areas. The incumbent is responsible for the following:

Summary of key functions:

  • Providing periodic updates on conflict, its dynamics and manifestations in Ghana, including identifying hot sports or conflict prone areas in the country, in close consultation with government entities and other stakeholders; Providing technical leadership and support to peace building and conflict resolution related initiatives, including the Joint UN Human Security Programme, the National Peace Council and the Independent Elections Commission;
  • Advising the CO on priorities for UNDP towards supporting the consolidation of peace and representing UNDP in the community of Development Partners involved in the promotion of peace and ensure visibility of UNDP and contribution to development policy and strategic approaches; leading the formulation of the peace building related component of the UNDP annual work plan for the Governance Cluster, in consultation with national stakeholders and development partners and Leading strategic partnerships and resource mobilization with national stakeholders, including the Ministry of Interior, the National Peace Council and civil society, as well as development partners
  • Supporting the Peace and Governance Advisor and providing oversight responsibility for the peace building component of the Governance Cluster activities including monitoring detailed work in progress and budget allocation/delivery, planning and implementing evaluations, and ensuring full compliance of UNDP support with rules and regulations and facilitating knowledge building and management with key counterparts

 

Required Skills or Experience

Qualification and Experience:

  • Masters degree in political science or related social sciences with at least 5 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in peace building and conflict resolution, proven understanding of peace building issues in Ghana, hands-on experience in design, monitoring and evaluation of development projects and experience in use of office software packages and handling of web based management systems

Competencies:

  • Maintains strong relations with local partners, using inter-personal skills to network effectively, excellent analytical, negotiating, management, organizational and communication and IT skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously, applies policies, standards, procedures and guidelines to deliver assignments accurately, and in a timely manner and strong interpersonal skills, team spirit, innovative and tasks initiative
  • Ability to produce accurate and well-documented records conforming to the required standards
