Abosso Goldfields Ltd, a subsidiary of Gold Fields Limited. Located in a tropical climate, the Damang Gold Mine is a world-class operation,consisting of 25 Mtpa open pit-mining operations and a 5.2 Mtpa CIL metallurgical plant. The mine is situated in the Western Region of Ghana and is ISO 14001 and OHSAS18001 certificated. It has a current Life of Mine expectency to the year 2019 and beyond.

 

Job Description

Purpose of the Job:-
Gold Fields Ghana Limited seeks to appoint a dedicated, experienced and self motivated individual to fill the vacant position of Unit Manager – Taxation. The successful candidate shall be responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure tax compliance. He/she shall ensure that Gold Fields Ghana Ltd and its affiliates in Ghana manage their businesses in a manner that meets all legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities:-

  • The Unit Manager – Taxation will be responsible for advising on the following matters where necessary;
  • Tax consequences associated with new and proposed legislation
  • Analysing agreements entered into third parties
  • Optimisation of tax expenses and benefits (for both GFGL and its employees)
  • Structure of expenditure captions
  • Transfer Pricing, Income Splitting, thin Capitalisation and other anti-avoidance issues
  • Double taxation and dividend stripping issues, and VAT/NHIL and Customs issues
  • Any ad-hoc tax duties as might be required

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Represent GFGL before the Tax Authorities
  • Ensure that monthly, quarterly and annual tax returns are completed accurately and submitted to the Revenue authorities on a timely basis
  • Ensure that submissions are made regularly to the Revenue Authorities and the necessary payments effected
  • Ensure the generation of all tax-related accounting entries in a complete, accurate and timely manner
  • Keep detailed documentation to support all tax filings and to make them available for audit purposes
  • Monitor the implementation of the company’s VAT exemption (if any) through the use of VRPOs, and also ensure the preparation of VAT quarterly reports required by the Commissioner of GRA
  • Monitor the company’s exemption from customs duty on importation of plant, equipment and materials and also prepare the appropriate monthly and quarterly summaries
  • Ensure that all Tax Credit Certificates (TCCs) are pursued, collected and distributed to the appropriate beneficiary suppliers of goods and/or services
  • Ensure that an application is made to the Commissioner for Tax Relief Cards (TRCs) to be issued to all resident employees to enable them benefit from the upfront reliefs
  • Ensure that annual returns are filed for all employees (including expatriate employees) in line with section 81 of Act 592 and Regulation 35 of L.I 1675
  • Ensure that the Commissioner is notified on the engagement and resignation/dismissal of employees’ from the company using Income Tax forms 54 & 53
  • Ensure that monthly Capital Allowances, Corporate Income Tax, Deferred Tax and Effective tax rates are computed to guide management on the performance of the company at all times in any year of assessment
  • Ensure Self Assessment/Revised Self Assessments are prepared and submitted to GRA on or before the due dates
  • Ensure that Tax Clearance Certificates are obtained for the company and all its employees who might need them
  • Translate the company and individual financial information into an accurate tax returns and agreed computations
  • Apply relevant knowledge and skill in evaluating the impact of taxes on the company’s financial decisions and situations
  • Advising on the following matters where necessary: VAT/NHIL and Customs issues

Required Skills or Experience

 

  • A relevant degree plus professional qualification in Accountancy or Law and/or equivalent experience gained with Tax Authorities
  • Professional tax qualification preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
