The Institute of Continuing and Distance Education (ICDE), formerly Institute of Adult Education was established as the Department of Extra-Mural Studies in 1948 at the then University College of the Gold Coast to carry the University’s presence and standards into Ghanaian cities, communities, towns and villages.
To become a centre of excellence, the Institute has been pursuing the three core functions of teaching, research and extension services. The Institute houses the University of Ghana’s Distance Education (DE) Programme which has, indeed, enabled a cross-section of Ghanaians to pursue their degrees through the use of Distance Learning modules and minimal face-to-face interaction.
