Job Vacancy: Director, Management Information Systems (MIS)


Job Description

Job Function:
The successful person will be expected to provide leadership in the development and implementation of strategic plans, policies, programmes and innovative solutions to address VRA’s IT and related infrastructure needs.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive IT Strategic Plan for the delivery of a best-in-class ICT function to support the attainment of the Authority’s business goals
  • Develop ICT policy in areas such as standards/architecture, security/privacy and information management
  • Manage all aspects of day to day operations of computing and network services, VRA website management, enterprise applications and support for IT infrastructure in an innovative and business-oriented manner
  • Direct the delivery of focused and responsive user and customer support to all levels of application software, databases and systems tools
  • Provide direction to a full range of activities associated with the acquisition, development, implementation, operation, and maintenance of workstations, minicomputers, systems software, networking, integration of voice and data communications, as well as multi-user office automation resources and facilities
  • Manage, develop and integrate document management services including the Library, Printing & DTP Services, Corporate Registry and Archival Services
  • Advise the VRA senior management team on needs for strategic improvement in VRA systems and IT usage practices
  • Provide and implement comprehensive IT programmes, as well as expert technical advice to all departments to facilitate departmental and corporate use of IT resources

Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment will be made on an initial contract period of two (2) years, of which the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period.

Required Skills or Experience

Preference will be given to candidate with:

  • A first degree from a recognised university and a professional qualification in IT ( or related subject) from an accredited institution
  • A post-graduate degree in Management Information Systems will be an added advantage
  • At least 15 years of working experience in IT related job with at least 5 years of senior management experience
  • Technical knowledge of, and experience in managing information technologies sufficient to direct/oversee their development, application, integration and delivery of required IT solutions, and provide responsive end-user customer support to meet expectations of Management
  • Demonstrated skills in interacting effectively with all levels of staff, as well as senior level of external agencies to resolve policy issues impacting the effective functioning of MIS department
  • Strong management skill, demonstrated leadership ability and vision required for strategic planning and innovative solutions, as well as excellent track record of team building
