World Vision International is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. For over two decades. World Vision has been working with urban and rural communities in all the 10 Regions of Ghana to improve provision of water, promote sanitation and hygiene practices and quality education, particularly at the basic level, enhance food security and respond to disasters.

Job Description

World Vision Ghana (WVG) is looking for highly qualified and motivated persons for the following positions known as The Systems Approach to Improve and Sustain Food Security (SATISFY) in West Africa. This project is a five years project funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and to be implemented by World Vision Ghana, Mali, Senegal and Sierra Leone. The ultimate outcome of the project is ‘improved food security status of people living in poor rural communities targeted by the project in these countries.

Reports to: Regional SATISFY Agriculture and Food Security Technical Coordinator (Technical), and Operations Director (Administrative)
Supports: Field Program Managers in SATISFY Countries (Ghana, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone)

Purpose of the Position:
The primary purpose of the SATISFY Gender Specialist is to coordinate the development and oversee the implementation of the project’s gender strategy. To this end the gender specialist will be responsible for facilitating trainings on gender equality for staff and partners in the project countries and monitoring gender equality results and reporting.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Provide overall strategic leadership and direction to the SATISFY project team on advocacy and integration of gender equality outcomes int he project implementation
  2. Achieve, Track and report on planned gender integration outcomes
  3. Strengthen organizational capacity on gender advocacy and integration
  4. Coordinate and support Gender Working Groups
  5. Conduct Advocacy, policy research & public awareness on gender equality and gender justice

Required Skills or Experience

Person Specification:

  • Minimum of 1st degree (BA) in gender studies or related fields
  • Minimum 3 years program experience in international development with a focus on women, girls and gender equality
  • Strong technical capacity, practical experience and solid insight into program level challenges in designing and implementing gender sensitive community development programs
  • Thorough knowledge of World Vision’s approach to achieving child well-being through relief, development and advocacy
  • A good knowledge of gender and global development issues, preferably with understanding of CIDA’s approach to gender equality
  • Comprehension of rights based approaches to development, with particular knowledge in women’s rights and child rights
  • Proven experience in developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating advocacy/gender projects and programs
  • Fluency in both English and French (written and oral communication)
