Abosso Goldfields Ltd, a subsidiary of Gold Fields Limited. Located in a tropical climate, the Damang Gold Mine is a world-class operation,consisting of 25 Mtpa open pit-mining operations and a 5.2 Mtpa CIL metallurgical plant. The mine is situated in the Western Region of Ghana and is ISO 14001 and OHSAS18001 certificated. It has a current Life of Mine expectency to the year 2019 and beyond.

Job Description

Purpose of the Job:-
The Metallurgy Department is seeking to employ an experienced and self motivated person to fill the above position. The incumbent will be responsible and accountable to the safe achievement of Tarkwa Laboratory’s targets which entails the development and installation of a pro-active approach to all the Laboratory’s issues in order for the company to attain high analytical standards sand to remain competitive to world standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Co-ordinating all the analytical activities of the Tarkwa Analytical Laboratory
• Utilizing specialist knowledge and experience in solving problems in the laboratory
• Providing technical services in maintaining high analytical standards for the mine
• Establish and maintain amicable and constructive team working relationships
• Carrying out formal and informal coaching and mentoring of assigned subordinates
• Overseeing the analytical processes to support the Tarkwa Mine to achieve its objectives and goals
• Ensuring that provided systems, practices, methods and procedures are maintained
• Assisting in the writing up of departmental procedures and standards

Required Skills or Experience

• A relevant recognized Bachelor of Science qualification in Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry or any Chemical related field with at least four years working experience as a chief chemist or similar position
• Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel and power point
• Good Supervisory Skills as well as the ability to work on the job without supervision
• Good analytical ability and working knowledge of six sigma and SAP
• An understanding of good Environmental, Health and Lab Safety as well as laboratory practices
• A valid light duty vehicle license and proficiency in driving a light vehicle
• Well developed oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrable understanding of environmental and chemical safety
• Medical fitness for the position and environment
• Previous experience in a Surface Mining Environment
