Job Summary:
The Business Development Manager, Africa is responsible for managing and implementing ACCIONs strategies for new project and funding opportunities in the region. The BDM will manage the pipeline of new projects and coordinate reporting to business and funding partners.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Prospect & develop new businesses and manage the business and resource development programs for Africa, including work plans and budget;
Lead fund raising (equity, debt and grants) for setting up MFBs in new locations in the region.
Recommend to the Regional Head the assignment of specific responsibilities to project managers and technical staff;
Coordinate relationships with partner investors and funders in Africa;
Lead due diligence teams for business opportunities;
Represent the business and resource development functional areas for the region within ACCION;
Provide information to help staff understand the work of this function;
Ensure alignment of the business development functions activities with the needs of internal and external clients;
Lead regional activities for Resource Development on revenue generation related to all projects and investments in Africa;
Ensure compliance with reporting timelines and procedures; and
Provide input to the Monthly Management Report via the Regional Head.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Experienced in start-up and management of microfinance banks to include business planning, developing complementary technical assistance plans, proposal writing, and relationship management with investors and other funders.
Solid technical knowledge of and experience in business and resource development for microfinance banking with at least 7 years of experience at a microfinance bank.
A post graduate degree in finance, business management or other related fields. MBA and or professional qualification would be an advantage.
Ability to lead business development functional area to achieve objectives.
Experience in investments and deal structuring will be an added advantage
Strong writing & presentation skills in English.
Fluency in English and French.
Knowledge of microfinance regulations in key African countries.
Expert use of Excel and office automation software is required.
Ability to communicate complex functional information to investors and funders.
Good analytical and due diligence skills.
Proficiency in Microfin will be an added advantage.
Minimum Educational Qualification
Masters Degree
