Job Description

1. STRATEGY FORMULATION
Develops strategies on how to manage the institutional credit Risk exposure:
Target setting for institutional arrears rates to converge to standards of portfolio quality (PAR)
Development of policies and procedures for controlling and steering loan losses and administration of problem loans according to client segmentation schemes in order to find constructive solutions in the fastest possible manner
Development of strategy and implementation of measures to increase quality at all phases of the lending process according to standards of ASL lending technology and industry practice
Develops strategies for portfolio diversification in terms of size, industry, location of client etc
Makes significant inputs in reviewing the ASL Credit Manual in sections relating to credit risk

2. CONTROLLING
Directly responsible for ensuring that branches do proactive and effective monitoring of disbursed loans
Monitoring different macroeconomic indicators and market /industry specific factors that impact on credit risk and advise the Credit Department on possible measures of managing such risks
Conducts periodic credit risk research on certain markets and industries to determine the level of risk exposure involved in lending to participants in such markets or industries
Providing feedback on the design and development of new credit products and improvement of existing ones by focusing on risk and quality aspects
Monitoring adherence to arrears management procedures at all branches
Investigation of potential fraud in lending operations (with the help of Internal Audit)

3. TASK EXECUTION
Monthly setting of arrears (PAR) targets in consultation with BMs and CSs & following up to ensure their accomplishment.
Implementation of recovery procedures necessary to achieve a desired PAR
Directly participates in branch arrears committees
Periodically assists in confiscation of collaterals
Works with the Police in handling credit related criminal charges brought by ASL against clients
Prepares monthly and periodic reports on delinquency management
Sets targets for recovery officers and monitors their performance closely to avoid any negative variances
Assists the company Legal Secretary to process credit-related cases at the law courts
Takes measures to recover all delinquent staff loans
Prepares Agenda and supporting documents for Credit Risk Committee (Head Office)
Prepares monthly and periodic reports on portfolio quality for the Board Sub-Committee on Credit

4. STAFF TRAINING
Training of employees (credit staff and others) on credit risk management
Required Skills or Experience

Educational requirements

University degree in Accounting, Mathematics, Economics, Psychology, Business Law or related field
Working experience
At least 2 years experience in loan underwriting
Experience in loan recovery in a financial institution would be desired
Knowledge of the microfinance sector/market in the operational areas of microfinance
Special / Personal Abilities
Familiarity with figures
Computer knowledge (MS office)
Good communication skills
Strong analytical skills
Conversant with Laws relating to debt recovery
Very firm and tough character
Results oriented and time conscious
Team player and ability to motivate others to achieve set goals
