ANGLOGOLD ASHANTI (IDUAPRIEM) LIMITED (Subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti Limited) operates the combines Teberebie and Iduapriem open-pits gold mines at Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana and has a workforce of over 1400. including contractors. It is a former NOSA 5 Star “Platinum” related mine, which has gained ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) Certification and currently implementing OHSAS 18001 Safety Management System.

Job Description

Reporting to the Processing Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Responsible for OHSAS 18001 and ISO14001 Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation
Co-ordinate all Occupational Health, Safety and Environment activities in accordance with the international standards as well as developing and improving the employees’ knowledge and skills in Health, Safety and Environmental issues in line with OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 Guidelines
Develop, implement and review of site specific emergency response plans for the Processing plant
Develop new operational procedures, written safe work procedures and review of existing ones and ensuring that employees’ are trained
Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA), hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control on all processes, activities and services at the Processing plant
Develop and Co-ordinate effective tool box meetings on relevant safety topics for employees
Co-ordinate/Conduct Site Specific Induction for new employees and contractors and also for employees who are back from their leaves
Develop and recommends appropriate remedial action in response to unsafe conditions or behaviour
Assist in incident investigations on the mine and on the mine and facilitate reporting of near misses, First Aid, environmentally reportable incidents/accidents to the processing and HSE departmental Heads
Ensure adherence to the site safety rules and regulations and co-ordinate the training of operations’s staff in all the Written Safe Work Procedures (WSWP) and safe handling practices for all the chemicals used in the process
Prepare Emergency Response Drill schedules on all foreseeable incidents in the processing department and ensure that emergency drills are conducted according to schedules prepared
Lead in the creation of a zero injury culture
And any other responsibilities that will be assigned from time to time

Required Skills or Experience

Must possess at least one of the following qualifications
Bsc. Degree in Metallurgical/Chemical/Electrical Engineering/Mechanical/Environmental Science from a recognised institution with a minimum of three (3) years relevant experience in the Safety function; or
Diploma/HND in Metallurgical/Chemical/Electrical Engineering/Environmental Science from a recognized institution with at least five years relevant experience in the Safety functions
Knowledgeable in Safety/Loss Control principles and safety management Systems and safety management Systems (eg. NOSA, OHSAS 1800, ISO 14001, IRCA, etc)
Must have experience in hands-on safety management responsibility in mining company
Ability to write and compile reports and make presentations
Ability to conduct safety training and inductions
Must be goal oriented with strong sense of urgency
Must have strong work ethics and positive attitude
Must possess a valid a Ghanaian Driving License and should be able to drive
Must be computer literate with working knowledge in the Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc
