Job Description

Job Title: Senior Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to provide support to the Ghana business. The role is primarily based in Ghana but will require travel within Africa and occasionally to Dubai.

This role requires complete accounting and controllership of the financial side of the company. The role of the Senior Accountant will ensure that there is timely recording of all day to day transactions on both the receipting and payment sides.

The role provides support to road shows and sales throughout the country, keeping manual and automated records of all transactions. This role takes full accountability for collections to ensure that no discrepancies exist.

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the calculation and timely payment of payroll, along with all payroll and company related taxes. It will require interaction with External Suppliers, Banks, Business Partners/Outsourced functions.

As part of the Controllership function, the role will be working with the operations team to ensure that policies, procedures and good working practice exists for vendor selection and maintenance. This position will also validate business related travel and other reimbursement expenditure in line with policy. The role will continue to evaluate existing policies and procedures to strengthen controls and efficiency. Overall, it requires a confident attitude in dealing with operational staff who have other priorities and focus.

The candidate must be a qualified accountant with a good understanding of key IFRS accounting principles and excellent General Ledger maintenance skills. The role will require the ability to work comfortably with numbers and pay attention to detail.

The role requires maintaining communication with the Finance Department of our trading partner, The First Group based in Dubai.

The ideal candidate must be able to work independently to meet deadlines and changing priorities. The candidate must be able to work well in a team, along with being highly flexible and responsive to duties as they change throughout the role. A positive attitude is required throughout, as a key part of the role will be to maintain basic routine responsibilities with accuracy.

Duties

  • Prepare daily/weekly/monthly cash sheet reconciliations.
  • Process client refunds according to pre-approval policy.
  • Ensure that all transactions on both the receipt and payment sides are well supported and approved by delegated authorities.
  • Process payroll according to contractual requirements and provide timely reconciliations for review.
  • Take full responsibility for the book keeping.
  • Complete weekly and month end reporting requirements within the strict deadlines set.
  • Exercise a controllership function over the Operations and Outsourced providers where it has a financial impact.
  • Identify and report internal control deficiencies immediately, with a view to correcting these quickly.
  • Varying other duties as the scope develops throughout the role.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor Degree (Accounting specialty).
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written English.
  • Must have an interest in Commercial Operations.

Experience Required

  • Must have at least 5 years working experience in an operational or audit Accounting role.
