Baker Hughes Graduate Trainee Recruitment 2012: Field specialists

Our field specialists perform skilled technical services, usually at the wellsite. They are the backbone of the company. Field specialists join the structured LEAD Learn, Excel, Achieve, Develop program and receive intensive training for 12 months in troubleshooting, technical procedures, safety, and interaction with clients.

What you need
Field specialists must complete a two-to-four-year technical diploma in engineering, electronics, or an engineering-related subject.

Unlike other development programs in Baker Hughes, fluency in English is not a requirement to enter the field specialist program. However, as you progress through your career, there is an expectation that a good command of the English language may be required for you to fulfill your role effectively. English competency requirements will vary based on location and business requirements.

Role
You’ll be a frontline field employee working with our customers and our technical products and services. You’ll have a demanding, hands-on job, with a development path centered on operations and field management.

Learning and development
Employees progress through the LEAD program by completing a sequence of courses, structured on-the-job tasks, and activities to develop competency.

Your training and development will include two phases: the first, which covers the fundamentals of the oil and gas industry, is scheduled for the first 12 months of your program. This is a mandatory component.

Phase 2 is a self-paced program that combines e-learning and instructor-led training modules that take place over the span of your career, leading to what we call ‘field specialist general’ status. Progression in this phase, which is driven by your own ambition and local opportunities, is not time-constrained.

Prospects
Once you’ve reached a certain level of competence as a field specialist, you’ll have the opportunity to work with regional management and human resources personnel to develop a formal career development plan. You’ll have the same opportunities as field engineers to achieve your personal career goals, while helping us meet our business needs. This means you could end up in field operations, technical support, application engineering, sales, or management.
