This is a management level position in BasicNeeds-Ghana. The duty station is in Tamale with frequent travel to programme areas of BasicNeeds-Ghana which are currently in eight regions of Ghana, including Accra, to work with project implementation partner organizations and beneficiaries, and occasionally, also travel outside of Ghana.

It is a role that will require you being responsible for the effective financial management and reporting, as well as contribute towards the financial planning and strategic growth of BasicNeeds-Ghana. You will ensure accurate and timely preparation of management accounts, preparation of the requisite financial reports to donors and relevant statutory authorities. This includes keeping physical and computer-based books of financial accounts of projects being implemented, implementation partners and staff advance accounts and staff payroll. You will produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including bank reconciliation statements, and financial variance reports to donors. You will work closely with and support the Executive Director exercise and maintain financial controls as outlined in the organization’s finance and accounting policies and procedures, ensuring they meet minimum accounting and financial conventions and practices. You will provide such financial information/ reports for management decision-making.

You will have working relations with the Programmes Manager, Administrator/Office Manager, Project Coordinators/ Officers, head, and finance officer(s) of project implementation partner organizations. You will supervise the Accounts Officer, who manages Petty Cash and carries routine bank transactions.

The suitable candidate must be suitably qualified academically and professionally with one or more of the following: ICAG, CIMA, ACCA, CPA, and/or BSC/ MBA / MSc Finance and Accounting. You have strong competencies in computers (Ms. Word, Excel, & Access) and accounting software packages, particularly TALLY and SAGE MMS. You have at least four (4) years post-qualification experience in an accounting and/or auditing environment. An experience of work in the not-for-profit sector, especially with reputable NGOs/CSOs will be an advantage. You will have substantial hands-on experience of managing multi-donor, multi-year project financial accounts, including sub-contract financial accounting for CBOs/NGOs You will be familiar with working with projects funded by grants from DFID / UK Aid, EU, Canadian government’s Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, KOICA, Comic Relief, charity Trusts, and Foundations. A strong understanding and competencies with working with poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged persons, especially persons living with or affected by mental, neurological and substance use disorders and their families and communities in remote and difficult to reach communities will be an advantage. You should be well versed with working virtually (online) with others. You will be able and willing to work within tight deadlines, occasionally committing extra hours without extra remuneration.
