The Machining Shop Supervisor is accountable to the Weld Machine Maintenance Superintendent for the safe, efficient, accurate and cost effective machine shop of the mobile equipment fleet at Kinross Gold – Tasiast Mine. The incumbent will provide overseeing job performance, leadership, development and direction to his subordinate staff that the business objectives of the Company are consistently achieved through the efficient management of the operation, as he needs to assess the work to be completed.

Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties

DAILY

  • Attend daily tool box meetings
  • Manage daily work duty delegation.
  • Attend 08:00 am planning meeting:
  • Report exceptions to 85% availability
  • Review waiting parts
  • Initiate work order for repairs, close completed work orders, ensure all relevant data to repair is identified correctly.
  • Review and approve daily time sheets for TMLsa and if necessary contract labor:
  • Inspect for quality and quantity on scheduled and breakdown repairs.
  • Perform workshop, and build yard workplace audits as per HSE requirements.
  • Ensure waste materials are disposed of as per workshop procedure.
  • Keep daily written log of events executed.

WEEKLY

  • Attend weekly pre-planning meetings.
  • Review weekly performance of team:
  • Works orders generated
  • Works orders executed
  • Report on variances to weekly planned maintenance.
  • Report on action items to improve core business.
  • Identify areas of opportunities.
  • Inspect maintenance areas for cleanliness.
  • Collect or review completed warehouse issues and keep completed books for archive reference.
  • Tool Store inventory, replacement items for order, tools or equipment damaged.
  • Review HSE reporting requirements for compliance to plan.

MONTHLY

Required Skills or Experience

Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements

  • Trade Certificate equivalent to a minimum of 5 years in an apprenticeship program for a Heavy Equipment Fitter or Mechanic.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience working in Heavy Equipment or Open Cut Mining.
  • Preferably 5 years minimum supervision or lead hand experience.
  • Computer skills: MS Word, MS Excel, CAT SIS, Komatsu KOMTRAX, JD Edwards, SOS.
  • Overseas maintenance experience preferred but not required
  • Ability to absorb heavy workloads without losing efficiency
  • Ability to transmit its expertise
  • French and English currents required

Preferred Equipment Experience

  • Caterpillar Experience: Haul Trucks: 793, 789, and 777, Track Dozers: D10, D9, Wheel Loaders: 994, and 992, Wheel Dozers: 854, and 834, Motor Graders: 24M, and 16M.
  • Komatsu Experience: Haul Trucks: HD785, Excavator: PC1250-7.
  • Hammer Drill: Tamrock Pantera, and Atlas Copco.
  • Diagnostic Experience: CAT ET, VIMS. Komatsu: Electronic shift controls.
