Description
World Education, Inc. seeks a local candidate for a Grants Assistant based in Accra, Ghana pending award from DFID/Girls’ Education Challenge/Leave No Girl Behind. The programme aims to improve the literacy and numeracy skills of highly marginalized out-of-school girls and transition them into formal school or employment.
This programme seeks to decrease key barriers to access quality education, opportunities for employment and improving safety of highly marginalized girls in schools and their communities, while increasing girls’ knowledge and adoption of positive behaviours, empowering them to become leaders and role models within their communities.
The Grants Assistant reports to the Grants Manager responsible for distributing, managing, monitoring and reporting on sub-awardee grants in the STAGE southern sector. The Grants Assistant will serve as the regional contact for Southern Sector sub-awardees on all financial issues.
She/he will work closely with NGO Downstream Partners to provide support and capacity building for financial structures within NGO Downstream Partners.
Responsibilities
Grant Management Responsibilities
Support financial management of sub-grantees and maintain local sub-grant partner files;
Maintain grants management database;
Facilitate funds transfer to sub-grant partners;
Conduct assessments of partners to determine qualifications and readiness to carry out work;
Review sub-grantee expenditure reports and process disbursements to sub-grantees;
Collaborate closely with national office Finance and Operations Manager and Grants Officer;
Track budget disbursements and advances reconciliations by sub-grant partners.
Assume other financial responsibilities as assigned.
Required Skills or Experience
Minimum
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or other relevant academic background;
Minimum of 5 years of work post-degree experience in the development field;
Experience in grants management and financial reviews for major development agencies;
Ability to present complex financial information in a succinct and compelling manner;
Solid experience in management of budgets;
Solid experience in financial reporting to various donors;
Working knowledge of QuickBooks;
Strong computer skills with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
Experience working with DFID funding preferred.

Experience planning and facilitating meetings
Demonstrated training experience
Demonstrated experience building partnerships and networks between multiple programmatic partners
Strong analytical and reporting skills
Strong English written and spoken communication skills
