Job Description

Job Title: Communication Program Associate

Commitment: Exponential Education expects a commitment of 40 hours per week. Location will vary from site visits to office presence, depending on the project load.

Description: The Communications Program Associate is directly supervised by the Director of Operations and also works closely with the Director. The C.P.A is responsible for the idea generation, troubleshooting, storyline, production and filming of promotional material for the organization. This is achieved through close collaboration with the Program Associates, Program Manager and Director when necessary.It is expected for the C.P.A to assist in the production of 1-2 quality videos per school term, along with weekly short Instagram videos highlighting various topics like “day in the life,” “student profiles,” etc. In addition, this position requires regular social media maintenance through photos and short videos.Exponential Education also maintains an active blog on the website. The C.P.A is responsible for 4-6 blog posts per month. 2 posts are written by the C.P.A in reflection of current articles, and 2-4 are written by fellow staff members. Along with the blog, regular maintenance of the website is required to reflect current term impact and student profiles. Photos from the website should be updated regularly, to stay up to date with current projects.The C.P.A. will work closely with management staff to network with potential partners and maintain contact with donors and other stakeholders, both in Ghana and abroad. This involves promoting online fundraisers and in-country fundraising events.

Duties May Also Include

  • Attendance of weekly staff meetings;
    • Monthly check-ins with Expo’s Director;
    • Weekly supervision with the Program Manager;
    • Maintain current staff headshots for website ;
    • Perform regular student interviews, with the assistance of the Production Assistant for translation/filming;
    • 1-2 site visits/week to Expo programs, depending on project schedule;
    • 1-2 quality visits/term, we’re looking for quality over quantity in order to properly reflect our programs; -Daily Instagram/Facebook/Twitter presence, including short videos, photos, links to relevant articles;
    • Stay up to date on politics/education in the local and international media to find articles and ideas to repost and share;
    • Blog presence: should give deeper reflections on relevant articles we feature on social media, staff profiles, “day in the life” of staff, etc;
    • Write the monthly newsletter, updating donors and community members on our programs. This should be produced at either the first or last days of the month;
    • Website updates on all programs (GirlsLEAP,BPC, LUV etc) and job openings.
    • Working with management team to plan fundraising events in country or online

    Qualifications: We are looking for early career candidates with experience in marketing and communications. Experience in Africa, non-profit work, or development work preferred. Passionate individuals who fit the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

    • 4 year Bachelors Degree, Master’s preferred;
    • Outgoing personality: comfortable talking to students, community members, coworkers, and Exponential Education staff;
    • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills;
    • Professional demeanour capable of representing our organization on public forums, both on the internet and on site;
    • Self-motivated and organized, working well with little oversight;
    • Social media savvy, familiar with Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
    • Experience living, working, or traveling in Africa a plus – Passion for international education, development, and supporting children in Africa a must

    Preferred Start Date: ASAP or May 1st, 2018. However, the team will develop an appropriate timeline for arrival in Ghana keeping in mind prior engagements, flights, visa processing times, etc.

Compensation: Currently Exponential Education puts nearly all of its funds into supporting children and running our programs in Africa, so we are unable to offer a base salary. As we continue to grow and undergo a transitional phase we hope to bring on early career staffers that will grow with our organization. However, we are able to cover all housing costs and inter-regional transportation for work purposes.

Benefits: Upon completion of the contract Exponential Education is prepared to assist with letters of recommendation and helping with job placement, using our considerable network of NGOs both in the United States and in Africa.
