Ghana Health Service Jobs: Medical Director (Regional Hospital)

Ghana Health Service is an autonomous Agency of the Ministry of Health responsible for providing and prudently managing comprehensive and accessible health service at Regional, District and Sub-district levels in accordance with approved national policies. To achieve this, the GHS must attract and appoint suitably qualified personnel to carry out its mandate at various operational levels.

Job Description

Duration: The Appointment is for a renewable term of four (4) years

Job Purpose:

To manage delivery of quality clinical services at a Regional Hospital

Lead in the development, monitoring, evaluation and implementation of clinical services in the facility in accordance with the natural health policy
Ensure that high clinical standards are met in the provision of medical services
Ensure quality clinical practice through performance standards and statiscal information
Set and coordinate work programmes to achieve set targets in the facility
Facilitate the development of operational policies, systems and procedures for efficient service delivery and for assessing and minimizing risk to all staff
Ensure that clinical services provided in the facility meet the physical, social and emotionl needs of patients/clients
Allocate at least 30% of time to direct clinical services
Ensure that the waiting time objectives are met
Provide leadership and technical support in the development of clinical protocols and guidelines using a multidisciplinary team
Lead in the preparation of strategic plan for the hospital and advocate for its implementation
Lead in the establishment and implementation of effective monitoring and supervision system
Provide leadership for the development of plans and budget for the facility
Play a lead role in the development of services to meet local needs
Promote evidence-based practice

Compensation:
The Ghana Health Service compensation package is competitve in the Public Sector

Required Skills or Experience

Applicants should have post-graduate qualification in their respective fields with 7 year experience as practitioners in their professionl fields
The last 3 years (5 years for first 3 positions) must be in a Management position preferably in the Public Health Sector
Evidence of leadership and continuous professional development or valid registration from the professional institution is necessary if applicants’ profession is regualated by law
Applicants must have considerable strategic, interpersonal and analytical skills with a deep understanding and appreciation of the strategic and operational challenges in the Health Sector
The ideal candidate must be performance driven and keen to achieve results
Candidate must be a Medical or Dental practitioners in good standing with the Medical and Dental Council

Conditions:
Applicants outside the GHS must be able to serve a full term of four (4) years effective 1 October 2010 before attaining the compulsory retiring age of 60years
