Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) is a Statutory Corporation established under Ghana’s Provisional National Defence Council Law (PNDCL 160) of 1986 to build, plan, develop, manage, maintain, operate and control ports in Ghana.
Job Description
Job Title: Executive Director
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate shall manage all commercial, business development and operational matters relating to labour supply.
Responsible for the managing of all operations within the country on behalf of the Company
Responsible for comprehensive market sizing, development and execution of annual plans to capture and increase our client base and profit
Develop an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the organization
Ensure that the operation of the organization meets the expectations of its clients, staff and the Board.
Oversee the efficient and effective daytoday operation of the organization
Draft policies for the approval of the Board and prepare procedures to implement the organizational policies;
review existing policies on an annual basis and recommend changes to the Board as appropriate
Ensure that personnel and client files are securely stored and privacy/confidentiality is maintained
Provide support to the Board by preparing meeting agenda and supporting materials
Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board
Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed
Develop client database to build and win potential business for the Company
Work with staff and the Board (Finance Committee) to prepare a comprehensive budget
Participate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organisation
Identify, assess, and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the organisation
Act as a professional advisor to the Board of Director on all aspects of the organisation’s activities
Foster effective team work between the Board and staff
In addition to the Chair of the Board, act as a spokesperson for the organisation
Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Board as appropriate and jointly with the Board when appropriate
Represent the organisation at public activities to enhance the organization’s community profile
Required Skills or Experience
The successful candidate must have;
A good first degree and a relevant Master’s degree from a reputable university
A Relevant professional qualification will be an added advantage but not required
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing people
Experience in labour related issues
Experience in collective bargaining
An understanding of the Maritime industry will be a plus
